We like to think players will acquire some of the same affinity as us fans do for Leicester City: we are the best place for their careers - and they will retain links to Leicester for the rest of their careers & it will be a disaster for them to move on...

But what about the best 11 on paper that it just didn't happen for at Leicester?

Could be young players whose careers took off after turning out for us, big names nearing the end of their careers that we thought would add needed experience, or just big signings who were a bust...

                                         Spider Kalac

John Curtis*       Martin Keown         Matt Mills

Jason Wilcox       Dennis Wise          Andre Silva       Jesse Lingard

                                       Andrej Kramaric

                            Dion Dublin           Harry Kane

Subs
Allan Clarke (before my time), Ayoze Perez (this is FT!), Roberto Mancini (bit unfair to put him in as it was really just a cameo), Andy Russell (see the 1st name 11 thread)

Manager

Sven-Goran Eriksson

*based on his own estimation of himself

Really, I could have just listed the squads from 2004 until we went down to tier 3, but in different circumstances, I think this side packed with internationals and Premier League winners would have been quite a proposition, although the defence does need a bit of beefing up...

Looking at the numbers, Beckford was at 0.53 goals per game before he came & managed a paltry 0.21 goals per game for us.

I'm surprised that Dublin's goalscoring rate is quite a bit lower than that. He always seemed to score for Coventry, but that period was by some way the best goalscoring period for him. 0.9 goals per game makes him a shoe-in for this 11 though.

I just can't believe he played as many as 58 times for us.

Harry Kane and Jesse Lingard were kids sent on brief loans. They weren't even that terrible they were just only ever brought in as fringe cover.

I'm not entirely sure they count. People make a bigger deal of their loans than they should.

I'd tend to agree with this... so Beckford should probably get in over Kane & Gokhan Inler over Lingard...

Just got another striker though with a career rate above Dublin's but couldn't reach the heights of Dublin's 0.9 GPG for us... I give you Nathan Blake!

McAteer was done from memory, or at the very least as close as you can get to done, had photos on the pitch, with the shirt and stuff. The official site even announced it (I'm certain) before pulling it down, think he went to Tranmere instead. Not sure what scuppered it, would've been 04 or 05? Under Adams.

I have to be honest, when Lingard was on loan with us, I judged that he didn’t have a career ahead of him in professional football. He was so lightweight and out of his depth, more so than any young loanee I can remember. Obviously I was very wrong about this.

Kane always had something, but he used to come on at 75 mins and look knackered by 80. Also, Pearson used to put him on the left wing if I remember! I haven’t got a bad word to say against Kane. He’s a fantastic striker, a decent guy and a model pro.

Weird isn’t it that some young players can look terrible, but go onto be superb; conversely some young players look absolutely exceptional, yet don’t even end up playing full professional football.

This just goes to show that - despite what us fans like to think - club coaches and scouts know a hell of a lot more than us about spotting genuine talent!

I’ll try…

GK Zieler - actually a decent goalie but just couldn’t settle into our way of playing, was a bit too relaxed.

LB - John Paintsil - one of the championship heavyweight signings, again flashes of looking decent, but on the whole was majorly disappointing.

CB - Matt Mills - I think we all saw him as the answer to our problems, but didn’t heed the warnings from Reading, turned out to be bobbins…..

CB - Damien Delaney - looked pretty decent when he first emerged, but probably fell foul of Taylor’s dismantling of our club.

RB - Ben Chilwell - he isn’t a right back I know before we start, but he really needs to be here, showed such promise initially, but something went badly wrong, got his £50m move to Chelsea and is definitely better off away from the KP.

RM - Cengiz Under - cold have been brilliant, was absolute bobbins, just again couldn’t adapt to the premier league or us.

CM - Michael Johnson - High hopes of resurrecting his career, but again due to his personally troubles just couldn’t settle.

CM - Junior Lewis - literally better off anywhere, even McDonalds wouldn’t have been a bad shout.

LM - Mark Davies - came in for a short (very short) loan spell in league one, and took the piss game after game, was far too good to play in that division.

ST - Harry Kane - goes without saying really.

ST - David Connolly - was a miserable twat, always felt he felt he was too good for us, I met him once at a signing event and he barely looked interested.
