No no I know you weren’t. But I do feel slightly embarrassed that I’ve only gone to Leicester for football. Maybe one day I’ll stop over for a weekend and actually check the city out properly.

You’re not missing a great deal lol

My missus has a metal hip and used to walk to and from there for games when she went 👍🏻

Lol.

In my defence they did say ‘near’ DMH. Is there parking available at De Montfort hall? I was struggling to think of where it might be near there, but actually there itself would make sense!

I was thinking of Granville Road close to De Montfort Hall which also backs onto Victoria Park. Unfortunately I have just checked and on Thursday there is something on at the hall plus COVID testing so it will be busy with fewer spaces generally so probably avoid. Of course there is the pricey Welford Road /Duke Street car park which is still a fairly long walk or the very cheap car park near Newarke Street not 24 hours but that would be a good 20 to 25 mins brisk walk so not ideal for an already late finish.

Interested in suggestions closer to the KP but allowing a quick exit

I dont get to go much these days but you used to be able to park in the Greek Orthdox Church car park on Sawday st, no idea if the guy who ran it still does but it's close to the ground and straight out onto Aylestone rd

I am sure there's plenty in that position. I was born and spent the first few years of my life in Leicester, but then moved out to South Leicestershire. The extent of my knowledge is the parts of the city centre where we went shopping as kids and my way to and from the KP/Welford Road!

Only £2.50 after 5pm. Might go there mesen and can even plug me car in

I was shocked to find that out the other week! Cracking value! A good half hour walk to the KP mind.

Likely be more with my 6 year old boy in tow. And inevitably have to carry him on my shoulders all the way back 😵💫

Definitely me. I know my way to The Shires, Fosse Park and KP.  The other half was very surprised during the Richard lll discovery coverage there was more to Leicester than those 3. I've promised now we're back to explore more.

This thread was fortuitous as we were looking for parking for tomorrow. I had to Google the Newark St car park. That'll do nicely as we want to eat in town first, assuming everywhere i know hasn't closed down!

Well I don’t envy you my friend, but on the bright side it will be a good workout (physically & mentally). 🤣

Know what you mean. I often have to carry my lad back but it's gets embarrassing these days as he's 28.

As you say it's a good half hour walk, but very little queuing to get out after a night match, unlike the carparks closer to the ground that charge at least twice as much.

I mentioned it in another thread a few weeks back but the old Saffron Lane Sports Ground has parking, think it’s a fiver and not tooooo far to waddle up to the KP.

Easy enough to get in but a nightmare to get out.

Ahh fair comment, I can imagine. I tend to park a little further up next to the park on Knighton Lane East. Easy to get out there and traffic flows OK up Saffron Lane tbf.

Council are currently consulting till the end of November to make every street in the Saffron Lane / Aylestone Road area a permit zone.

Days of having any free parking close to the ground could be numbered if this goes through

We've gotta have better public transport to the ground.

I was chatting to a parking warden recently... there was some spray pain on a parking notice. He told me he couldn't put a ticket on if the signage was impaired.

I told him that meant that rather than put money into a machine for a ticket or a residents voucher then I should just get an aerosol and spray over the sign.

He said: yes that's correct... but dont get caught doing it!

Its mad... the council could go to all this trouble and some idiot with an aerosol could sneak along at 2am and undermine it!

That’s a friendly Parking Warden I normally get the jobsworths who ticket cars as if they’re on a mega bonus for each ticketed car, I bet now they’ll be a few painted over signage et al Banksy style around the ground in the coming weeks, be good to see if they follow this up by not ticketing cars by defaced signage ?

...I  suppose by the time you have made it back to your car, the initial rush would have died down!!!
