Disregarding the weather for a minute, looking forward to waking up and Australia having an unbroken 200 run opening partnership in response to our 109ao lol

Will be half right tomorrow I guess

Predictable news to wake up to. They will hide behind lack of preparation and it's correct, they have done nothing for months but we all know it would probably have happened if they'd played 5 warm up matches.

Their bowling attack is just too good for us. Not seen any of the wickets yet but as always it's a lot of knicks to keeper and slips.

Only hope is that their batsmen are equally as poor.

It a little strange to leave Anderson out (he was fit enough), but to omit Broad was madness.

The Aussies are worried about him, Broad knows it too. Bizarre.

Why hasn’t anyone questioned the absurd decision to bat first? lol

Historically bowling first is not a good thing to do first day of the Ashes in Aus. Nasser Hussain famously opted to bat first under cloudy skies at the same venue in 2002 and Aus ended up 360 off for 2 at the end of day one. He still gets pellters for that decision.

Though neither side would have been distraught at losing the toss, Aus would have batted first too. They know you just have to bat well, especially in the opening overs.

Only way could have seen England gambling (and it would have been a big gamble) on bowling first was if they’d have gone with an all seam attack, rather than needing a spinner if Aus are batting fourth.

England haven’t been good enough. That’s it really.

That lack of preparation is the ECB’s doing again. The last cricket most of them played was IPL and the 100.

The weather hasn’t helped either tbf.

Them warm up games in the lead up would have been no test even if they were on. Needed to play Aussies used to this new red ball with experience or condition and pitches. Playing lads who you face most days in training and nets aren’t the most useful

Glad I opted for 8 hours sleep (minus a few wee trips) than stay up and watch that predictable shite.

Because they'd have done the same? Hardly absurd, our batting is just dog muck.

I don't know what I expected when I woke up this morning but I'm not sure it was 147 all out for England.

I expected fewer than that tbh.

Would they? lol I don’t think so.

At least we can let Broad rip through their top order.

Isn't it basically tradition that you get smashed at the Gabba anyway?

Who’s ‘you’?
It’s the England and Wales cricket board so I think you mean ‘we’

I once gave a $100 banknote to a taxi driver by accident outside there - embarrassingly I was sober at the time.

Rename the team GB, get rid of the Plantagenet arms and invite the Scots and we'll talk.
