It would help the league if we were to lose to Forest and can find another knocked out side to play on 5th round day but after that the cup dates have PL fixtures proposed already so if we go far they have to be moved too. There's even a full set of fixtures scheduled for the F.A.Cup Final weekend. Can see one of those situations in May where we have games every 3 days. Then there's our progress in that Conference thingy, which would rule out Weds, Thurs and surely Tuesday games of those weeks too. Imagine if we went all the way in that?  Sensibly the PL could add at least 1 week to the season but with the Champions League Final on the 28th and perhaps 1 or 2 of our clubs involved it would need to wait a further week if the "Played at the same time" rule is deemed relevant to those games.

They simply have to play the Norwich and Burnley games over this international break.

No doubt Norwich ends up weekend and Burnley midweek.

Norwich would lose Sargent in that scenario, which means they might actually stand a chance of beating us.

Just looking at our schedule, I think that's the only way you can actually do this.

You've got to account for the fact there's a chance we lose another league game because of the FA Cup - us getting to the quarters isn't farfetched, that means Brentford falls. Potentially another two on top of that (as for some reason, I'd imagine deliberate attempt to devalue the cup, they have made the final during a PL matchday again).

Then you have Europe. We won't know until late February if we have the rest of the midweeks free, likewise we then won't know until 17th March if we have any in April free, and so on. Given we're bookies favourites to win the tournament, are facing on paper the weakest team in the competition, I think you have to assume we make probably at least the semis.

This is a rare case but I think they're gonna have to play Burnley and Norwich over the international weekend - especially given it isn't a 'normal' one and there are Championship games anyway, which they aren't usually.

Annoyingly, this'll mean probably Burnley midweek. I think Norwich will be 29th January and Burnley will be 1st February.

Forgot about him

not sure Norwich will re arrange that weekend unless they expect to have nearly all their players back and think we won’t be any weaker if they leave it any later. The PL cannot ask them to play without their agreement.

He isn't a regular for the National Team so may not be recalled up

The only issue with that is

L.3.
No fixtures shall be arranged on or on any of the six days preceding the four dates agreed between the League and The Football Association prior to each Season upon which international matches will be played.

It has already been approved

Have to be using the Chelsea slot now they're in the League Cup final. 26/27th Feb weekend is completely free for us. Sling a game in asap and get it scheduled.

The problem is nobody we need to play is free. They all have their own games and sods law, Liverpool were meant to play Arsenal.

Why not Everton away?

Suppose you do have three slots in there actually and the fact they've given the go ahead to games being played in that slot tells me it's inevitable. With Everton the worry was that they had non-European internationals such as Mina and Rondon, and it was a Sky game so they'll have some sway in this.

You just know we'll end up with two crap dates for the Burnley and Everton away games. They'll make Norwich the weekend and the two aways at shit times.

Saying that regarding this international break you could argue anybody could play given we have AFCON already going on. If anything it evens up our game with Everton.

We just have to use at least two of those slots as there will be more games for us to rearrange.

Saturday 29th January play one of the games

Wednesday 2nd February play another game

Not ideal but we are running out of slots with the European/FA Cup unknown. Rather get them played now than face 8 or 9 games in late April/May

There are three slots really. No reason you can't play another on say Weds 26th as well.

We've got to do it. There's about as much chance we enter April with 5 games in hand as there is we don't, if we don't do it. 2 or even 3 is something but 5.... we'd end up going beyond the season.

Yes I know, I was being conservative on the games otherwise we play 2 games a week from Wednesday with still a light squad until February at least. As you say, maybe better to just get them in as no doubt another 1 or 2 would be postponed.

There's nobody available to play.

Are we assuming no more games get cancelled?...we got 6 weeks minimum of cold flu season upcoming

They've got to change it immediately. They'll not get the season completed otherwise.

Burnley doing this is crap for us but it felt kind of inevitable after we did it to Everton (twice), Everton did it to Burnley, that Burnley would do it to us.

A football club's job is to play football matches...

In 1987 the Washington redskins replaced their whole team in a few weeks with guys off the street (pros were on strike). They even got a guy out of prison to play QB. They won all 3 games with these amateurs before pros broke strike and returned

In a way I think the PL is missing a trick by not allowing these games to go ahead. There's a real chance for a few youngsters to get put on the big stage and there's bound to be upsets / goals scored by unknown players which is always good to see. And I doubt it would hurt the opinion on the EPL in general, everyone knows that Covid is the cause.
