Like most have said, his talent on the ball and confidence was clear to see. There were a few times where he’s tried to do too much but he’s 16 and making his debut, I think we can understand!  It was interesting to see Brendan appearing to make that point to him on the pitch after the full-time whistle had gone in the centre circle, will be interesting to see how he develops over the next couple of years.

Genuine question, I know yesterday was a very positive performance from all of our young bucks, but do you expect we’ll see much of them going forward this season? We’ve got a shocking injury list and players at the AFCON at the moment, but once they’re back, these youngsters presumably won’t really get near the first team squad again, or do we think some might start nudging senior players out of the match day squad?

Very exciting player by the looks of it and hopefully breaks through into the first team before one of the giants lure him away and then send him into oblivion never to be seen or heard of again.

Whatever happened to Tavares

If the Premier League don’t agree to postpone some of our matches then some of those youngsters will have to play! Most likely Daley-Campbell and Brunt based off yesterday.

Otherwise no we probably won’t see them too often. Perhaps one or two might keep making the bench, Kasey McAteer I could see ending up with 5/6 off the bench appearances by the end of the season for example. But even though they were all promising, there’s a reason they haven’t made the match day squads. Brendan trusts young players and they’ll play if they are ready; see Fofana, KDH, etc.

My lad is a Leicester fan and also most of his age group are. U11s. It helps getting tickets through the academy. I can only hope that one day he'll make his debut. He turned round today on our way back from a tournament at Tottenham and said he wants to be the youngest to make his debut. 😂😂😂 Nice target I suppose.

My friends son plays at that age group, some very good players, frightening how technically good they are.

We definitely have a good age group and looking at the players we are producing I'm very glad we made the decision to sign at Leicester.

I notice Brendan saying ‘too much, too much’ when Alves got the ball for the second time after coming on. He must have been full of adrenaline, especially after his first couple of touches and the response from the crowd. He does look prone to holding onto the ball too much so I imagine that is going to be a key feature in his development.

I personally don’t think we’ll see much of the kids once we get close I our full compliment back. Playing Watford in the cup is a very different prospect to playing against most prem teams in the league. They might get the cup games or feature in the conference league.

...probably has forced the club's hands in highlighting a path to the first team!!!

The chance of a young player walking, when you as a club, have invested time and money in their development has just been negated by what we saw today. Circumstances has been a factor as you would expect, but Tavares leaving, might just have been the push the academy needed to accelerate their development.

Or alternatively, it shows the kids that you don't get gifted a pathway. You have to have the right attitude.

He's walked away and at this point has nothing to show for it. Had he stayed, no doubt he would have got minutes this year.

People will see that in the academy and might make different choices.

I can imagine Tavares will be kicking himself seeing these young lads get minutes in the first team.

Young players need to be patient and their time will come if they're good enough and have the right attitude.

At the same time, Tavares's situation let the Academy players know that forcing the issue of "accelerating their development" can lead to not getting a game in Porto 2, at the fraction of the wages. I can't think of one of our Academy wunderkinds that left early that have made a success of it...Dodoo, that Romanian kid, etc.

...you have got to say what is the easier option!!!

Sit tight with your new contract and hope the club eventually finds a loan for you, or do not sign, pack up your  things and move to another country and start from scratch.

You have seen what playing on the continent can produce for  aspiring British players. They are technically better coached, and are well sought after.

Yesterday was a culmination of a virus, AFCON and injuries which allowed us to field such a team of aspiring youngsters. This situation perhaps will never arise again, but you cannot put your career or life on hold hoping for situations like this to happen.

Tavares will have to work his way back, from the little that I  saw from him (prior to leaving), I was sceptical of his ability on the pitch, and felt that he was indecisive in his play. Having made the move, he needs to eliminate that aspect of his game. He is not getting much, if any game time, and he has got to put in the work for that to change.

I am sure we are looking at that loan system with envy. Our new training ground will hopefully be enough of a draw that we will have a good batch on loan each season in a few years.

We have to show there is a pathway to the first team, but also "duty of care" for professional development. If our Academy is selling kids after successful loans, getting them good contracts, that's a win-win (especially if there are sell-on clauses).

.. the tendency was to keep our players too long in our academy!!!

It took too long for KDH to go out, they were being held back when they should gave been pushed to compete in leagues where people were playing to make a living and their endeavours meant something to their households.

Players start to stagnate if ignored too long and hit a plateau, and that is what has happened to our academy players.

Players struggling in League 1 and 2 is ridiculous as these are players who could play at a much higher level but have spent far too long in an academy which has held back their development.

The fact that we have finally realised, and are now implementing a change in the way we view the upcoming academy players is a great thing.

The names you have mentioned were back in the day, the Romanian kid was a good player, he was held back. Leyton Ndukwu was also held back too long, he should have been pushed in order to see if he could progress in a linear fashion.

An example, just looking at Brunt, some chatter about him coming here but nothing of much note about his performances and yet you get an assured performance such as we saw yesterday.

To the club's detriment, players have plateaued in our academy.

Would imagine next season he’s around the squad for early league cup/da cup games depending on the opponents etc.

Yeah, he's too young to go on loan. It will be interesting to see how the club manage him for the next 18 months.

Good to see us Groby lot getting some positive vibes rather than being known as the place where there's a good car park for dogging!

This interview and the following result is still one of my favourite ever Leicester memories 🤣

He did his insane bill of skill right in front of where I was sitting yesterday (I wasn’t in my normal seat, I was near the front) and i honestly couldn’t understand what he was doing with the ball, it was extraordinary; his close ball control is absolutely unbelievable! Obviously you need more than just that to make it, but he’s got the potential to be superb.
