He was very close to a little girl (Norwich fan) who died of cancer if I recall correctly. Still did a lot for her even after moving to us.

I checked the sum just after he posted and again this morning, it's up by nearly £7000. How anyone can have a go at him for bringing it more publicity is beyond me.

Even if nobody else donated, it's still a brilliant thing he's done.

I know a Leicester legend has donated £155,000 to a childrens charity over the last 3 years and NO one knows about it, and he doesn’t want anyone knowing about it, he wouldn’t be the type to throw a PARTY over it 👍

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. His other half also seems very active with charity work.

The stick madders gets is so bang out of order. As others have said he is damned if he does, damned if he don’t.

we all make mistakes growing up, but underneath it, madders seems a top lad with priorities now getting into the right place.

there will be more people posting over his form, supposedly attitude or dress sense then they will posting in a positive thread like this. Which says it all really.

And credit to him, another unsung hero.

Whether footballers donate for publicity or not, it’s donating to an amazing cause that they could choose not to donate too.

There are plenty of other players that do not donate at all.

And the Merc readers have done what to help the kid go to Disney World? I am sick of people who do nothing to help others, but are quick to question the motives of those who do.

Best post of the year to date IMO. :appl:

I see some Merc readings are accusing him of publicity seeking even though England defender Tyrone Mings and former Three Lions captain Alan Shearer have also donated have publicly donated - the lad just can't win.

also think his argument about bringing more awareness to her cause and therefore more donations was extremly valid

he's maybe a bit of flash git, but he's a good bloke

Outside of football he comes across as a very good bloke. With football he does come across as egotistical but when you want to be as good as he does it comes with the territory sometimes.

People can't separate the person and the footballer though and the bashing he's getting for this is massively out of order.

Him donating £2.5K (assuming hes on £100K a week) is in % terms like someone doniting £12.50 on £26K a year. It's not like hes chucked a quid in. Fair play to him

The amount was determined by how much was needed to reach the £20k which I understand had stalled somewhat, Maybe he'd have given more if needed.:dunno:

People always seem to judge donations by the loss it causes the donor rather than the benefit that is gained by the beneficiary.

I dont think he is publicity seeking and is genuine, so is good for him and the young girl, but of course I dont see it as any more special than someone on min wage donating a fiver to a homeless dude.  I just keep the perspective.

A fiver from someone on minimum is great. Madders is famous though. Everything he does, good and bad, is sprayed all over the press. No escaping it.
