Although that makes predicting the lineup for this weekend more challenging. Rarely a fan of whole sale changes, but would hope for 4/5 to keep some consistency and get some fresh legs in. Schmeichel Amartey - Fofana - Söyüncü - Thomas Ndidi Albrighton - JM10 - KDH - Lookman Iheanacho Given Fofana was due to start yesterday, can see him starting here if he’s feeling okay. Wouldn’t want to risk Justin so soon, especially as we’ll need him for next week, so can see Amartey starting at RB. Not ideal, but does mean Justin can come on for Fofana on the hour mark, limiting Fofana’s minutes on his return and giving Justin another 30 to get back up to speed, with Amartey shuffling infield. Think Barnes and Daka will be needed on Thursday, as we will likely look to play on the counter as we’re 2-0 after the first 2 quarters. So would be good to keep them fresh with like for like replacements coming in. And then Maddison in for Youri in midfield, to get a bit closer to support Kels up front. So gone for 4 changes all in all, but could’ve been more or less. And then would play the same side as last night in the away leg in Rennes.

Given the form the team is in, I could see us getting a result here even with a weakened team, but it's all a bit irrelevant as we won't finish in the European places in the league, whereas we have a shot at winning the Conference League, especially if we get past Rennes. In recent games we've been defending collectively well and playing nicely. I'd just like to see those performances maintained and see how we do. 2

Personally think we need even more changes than that so we have some energy. Mendy in for Wilf. I think Ricky P might be fit too, so he can do 60 and JJ 30 at RB. Might be tempted to play Soumare for KDH too. Not expecting anything against an in form and rested Arsenal. Games at Rennes and at home to Brentford are more promising, so protect our resources 1

After Covid,I reckon it's too early for Fofana..He would be injury prone.. Maybe from the Bench for Rennes,then if OK,the next W.end

Exactly this, let's see Nacho and Daka together it cant hurt, be great to win or draw, but with Arsenal in form may be difficult, so give them a chance, you never know. Actually was the team I was thinking of, bar putting in Vesty for Fofana. We could rotate later with Mendy and Lookman. Thursdays 2nd leg is obviously the priority but with us building momentum it is very important to get that balance right of careful rotation. The players that look like they have had whacks in recent weeks are KDH and Ndidi. Both were very good last night and could have a breather with Maddison and Mendy coming in instead. If Maddison starts then I'm tempted to stick with Daka as he's much more dangerous at getting the space to be played in with Maddison close to him. Justin should be kept fresh for next week too. Yes we need our strongest team against Rennes but I'd like to us carry on some form, I reckon we can get a result there if we play well. Not sure what to do with Maddison, he's in great form but we've looked a more solid unit in midfield without so he may need to play from the right but then he doesn't have the same work rate as Albrighton. I'd save Justin, hopefully Ricardo can play, we will need Albrighton energy next week so rest him and I think Daka's running does get us up the pitch when under pressure so I'd play him here and Iheanacho next week.

And then Brendan brings everyone back as soon as they’re “fit” again. For me what we must do is let the players who have shown fight and played out of position have the right to lose their place to our star names. Every time we’ve reverted back to more of a “first” XI, we’ve ended a good spell of form. He seems to have clocked on this time with Albrighton, it baffles me how last time he asked for desire but dropped Mark as soon as someone was back from injury. How does that prove your “desire” point? Positive signs for sure, but if the likes of Ricardo and Fofana are fit for Sunday i think their starting place should be the bench. Would say Madders should be eased back in too and let him start in Rennes 1
filbertway Posted 11 March 2022 Posted 11 March 2022 Albrighton looked absolutely gassed after about 10 mins last night, if we're planning to play him next thursday then there's no way he should be playing on Sunday. If we're planning to go Justin/Lookman then fair play. Bit of a makeshift team and working under the assumption that Ricardo and Fofana still aren't in a position to start. Probably right, but BR won’t have given up on it and I haven’t either. I can see a strong finish yielding 60/61 points. Seventh last season got 62. We might need to beat that to get top 7 this time. 1

The Maddison of October 2021 onwards seems faster, stronger, better at tackling, pressing and carrying the ball. If he's fully fit then he is the first player on our team sheet or should be, he is exceptional. 10

Will never happen if we go furthre in the ECL, we simply just don't have the squad and will have too many games. Trying to achieve both will likely result in us achieving neither, we should be 80/20 leaning towards ECL. That's not what Rodgers will say publicly, or to the players though, and rightly so. 1
