How does every player nowadays manage to warrant a big forum debate on his ability when it’s plain to see he’s pure excrement like the player in question? I don’t remember anyone scratching there heads over Momo Sylla and Elvis Hammond back in the day.lol

Was no reason to scratch heads over those. It was clear how shit they were

I would be shocked if he ever reached Wilf's defensive peak.

That’s the point though isn’t it? We don’t need Wilf’s peak, we need 80% Wilf and a football brain

edit As I say your later comment on not tracking the runner, and yes this is a concern from Soumare, but Wilf is cack at that too, so it comes down to if we want this CM to be a bit more than a defensive shield or not I guess

He is indeed a hybrid player one that doesn't score or defend well, absolutely sublime. A bit like the evolution of a Panda bear 😂😂😂

Kung Fu Panda respectfully takes umbrage!

He’s Ndombele II.

He can strike a ball but he’s languid and lazy. He’ll never cut it in the Premier League because he can’t move around the pitch as quickly as he’d need to in order to be effective (well certainly not whilst he can’t be arsed to).

One of those where he’s also damaging to the defensive shape of the team because he doesn’t track runners or put the yards in. Watch him off the ball and you learn far more about him than a 3-minute clip of him playing simple 10 yard passes against an atrocious Forest side.

Its not clear how soumare isn't shit in some people's eyes. Can't think of anything he has done so far that points to a premiership player apart from blind hope

I like Bouba, I've never quite understood the hostility. But one thing that does stand out watching that is how many times he plays a pass and then stands still when there's a really obvious space for him to move in to.

To be fair to him, the whole team do it. Pass and Move is something we're terrible at at times. I know we'll never be as good as Man City at possession football, I get that they have the best coach and players in the world. But watch them play, watch someone like Foden. Receive the ball, first time pass, move in to space.

We're so fvcking static at times it's painful. Like watching Puelball again.

...it is not rocket science, it can easily be coached and implemented, you do not need to be a top-class player to make it work!!!

If you take a look at the Manchester City Women's team, it replicates the men, in the way, they dominate the ball and pass it till the cows come home. Just like the men's team they are susceptible at the back, lack pace and because they are rarely tested there is no pressure that they have to handle.

He was our best midfielder. Not sure why KDH and Youri get so much game time.

I was just about to say the same. He was our best player today and I'm not sure why he was taken off.

He was thinking ahead of the ball and making runs into space but was never used.

He doesn’t possess a better footballers brain though, a footballer HAS awareness of players around him and sniffs out trouble.

Yes, he has a better touch than Ndidi, can pass better than Ndidi but that’s not having a better footballing brain.

I kinda see where you’re coming from but I don’t think I can ever get behind the notion of Soumare having a footballing brain as he struggles with so much of the basic stuff of playing CM - even an 8 has to track a runner etc.

He had all of that today and more. Mentally he was ahead of others particularly Your today.

You've got to give him time.  The problem is we're not winning games  but that's not his fault. It's mistakes by others like Faes today which let Bournemouth back into the game.

Wilf is good at one thing and he should be left at it.  He's never going to be a footballer who can do more.

Been a big critic of him but on a human level that’s great to hear. Obviously struggled to settle last year and sounds like he’s overcome that. Shows mental strength at least.

He’s not a DM though.

Not been his biggest fan but was a lot better.

However, he isn’t a DM and against a better side…him playing in that role will see us drop more points.

Was he playing as a defensive midfielder? Looked more like tielemens in that role tonight

His best game in a City shirt so far?

Best Premier League game, but that's not saying much.

I will say one thing though. Even at Lille, he did not make many challenges, he was more of a forward passer / progressor type of a player. In his first season he neither did that, nor did he tackle much. This season he's got stuck in a lot and won the ball back. He's adapting to the physical side of the game slowly but surely. There is a good player in there, though I think there is still a lot of work to do. During the start of the 2019 season, Wilfred Ndidi after his brainfart against Chelsea was absolutely sensational. Can Soumare get to that level...? Not sure yet. But compared to Mendy, and maybe even Ndidi himself, I'd say Bouba has the higher potential. Technically he is a lot more gifted, and I can see the Yaya Toure comparisons at times.
