Best way to improve our points count next season?

Worst set piece record in the league for goals conceded. An easy improvement would be a goalkeeper who attacks the ball, catches the ball. Imagine that. KS wont even venture out for a ball 4 yards out floated in proper Albrighton style, cost us the corner that led to the first Newcastle goal today.

 

Has to be worth an extra 10 points minimum.

Just have our regular back 4 and our star striker not all out injured for the majority of the season will improve it more than anything else

 

Take the starting back 4 and the main goal scorer out of any team in the world and you’d take a good chunk of their points away, we even saw that with Liverpool last season by just taking out their back 4 and not even taking out Salah.

Yet makes saves at vital times, like in both legs against PSV, the saves in the FA Cup final etc. He costs us far less than he wins us.

 

There's very few goalkeepers who do not have an obvious flaw, even Ederson and Alisson have.

Think it's a case of careful what you wish for for wanting rid of Kasper. Yes he doesn't come for crosses but he never has and he's nearly 500 games in for us and we've never had the set piece issues we have this season prior. All very well collecting a ball from a corner but how often does he save us with wonder save after wonder save in games? If you want a keeper who is great at shot stopping, great at coming for the ball and great with the ball at his feet to play for us, my advice would be to wake up.

Play well for 90 minutes occasionally! Every game we seem to have a 20 minute spell of absolute madness where we make stupid mistakes and can't play a simple 5 yard pass

If and Its a big if Fofana can stay fit all season then that's a start. I still maintain that if him, Vardy and Evans play about ten more games this season we are about where Wolves are points wise.

Astonishing isn't it? Yes he winds me up occasionally with his lack of command of his box but the amount of huge saves he makes for us more than make up for it. It really seems like no players are off limits to criticise but if you dare to question anything Brendan does you're a glory hunter

and another one that ignores that the fact that the majority of goals conceded from corners are down to errors from our defenders, either losing track of the attacker they are marking or simply failing to challenge for the header that they should be getting to or at least putting the attacker off.

Draws instead of losses will also increase the points total.

 

In the old NASL, you got 4 points for a win 1 point for a draw, but up to 3 points for each goal scores. Score 3 goals and win 7 pts, 3 point draw got you four points, and lose 4-3 you still got 3 points.

For a club of our size a fully fit squad would do wonders, having Fofana, Evans, Vardy and Ndidi fully fit makes a big difference to our points total.

Better game management. Some of our players would rather let a team successfully counter than foul someone and get a yellow. So naive.

Do not get as many injuries, become better at defending set pieces, get a good right winger, get a good centre forward.

Having a proper centreback partnership is the main one but also being more aggressive/risky with our passing.

I think we are doing a lot of things right and we have some real quality. For us, i feel it comes down to the real basics of football whereby if you concede fewer goals, there is less pressure in having to score more to win. With us, one goal never seems enough. We are almost guaranteed to concede, and mostly they are silly, self inflicted goals.

 

Luckily for us, whilst it has been an issue throughout this season, we already have the solution - The return of quality defenders. Whilst it may seem cruel, The likes of Soyunchu & Thomas just aren't good enough for a team that's looking at pushing European Football. There's absolutely no comparison between Soyunchu & Fofana / Evans.

 

In terms of attack, i feel we need another goal scorer. Vardy isn't getting any younger and is going to be missing more and more games through injury / fitness. This is bad enough with just Premier League games, you then have to factor in European games and domestic cup games. I like Nacho, he has a lot of good traits - Unfortunately Scoring isn't one of them. Daka also looks like he is going to be a dud signing. 

 

Midfield, i think we are quite strong with KDH, Madders, Ndidi (Albeit not his best season), Barnes etc. I wouldn't mind seeing Lookman sign if we can get him for a decent price.

 

My overall assessment, keep the main defenders fit & invest heavily in a goal scorer. I think the rest are more than capable of getting us European football.

Liverpool weren't even missing their entire back 4; they had their first choice full backs fit for pretty much the whole season. They were just missing centre backs.

Most of what I would suggest has been mentioned but I seriously think the club need to think a about the Goalkeeper.

Need to toughen up both physically and mentally. Be bastards more and stop throwing things away in the last minute. I swear we’re the only club on planet Earth that populate most other club’s ‘you’ll never believe this if it wasn’t recorded’ YouTube highlight reel. Spurs, Watford, Forest, Newcastle just four off the top of my head. 
 

Sell the following and bring in winners from lesser known leagues with know-how to win (I.e from teams like PSV, Slavia etc):
