Would like to think that once we got planning, we’d have spent the summer doing further preliminary work and getting it ready as a semi building site.

odd choice given there was so much uproar about there being no direct trains to wembley for the semi, yet we have no direct links to manchester or liverpool either

At least it is just 1 change for Leicester from Manchester and Liverpool rather than train to London, tube, and then train again

Doesn’t speak well of getting the planning for the new stand any time soon

Why? Any building that starts will be the tower blocks and upper level concourse/corporate sections and roof, They'll then build down to attach both together. Plenty of grounds have had expansion going on and still been at full capacity.

Exactly that’s my point. Look at Anfield Road Stand being rebuilt now, summer would have been a good chance to get it organised as a building site. Now we’ve taken another two weeks off that potential programme if we host this fixture.

If it’s 5.30pm, it will be a problem for Liverpool

supporters and the Trainline to Birmingham from Leicester at weekends keeps terminating at Coleshill Parkway for HS2 works.

Cant believe it wouldnt be better at spurs or arsenal

It would be, but it would mean you would have direct competition with the women's final in London, and if England aren't in the final, then you have a good chance for the Community Shield having a higher attendance, which isn't good graphics for the women's game. They probably want it out of the capital for that reason (with the added bonus that our capacity means that probably won't have a Daily Mail headline of 'Glorified friendly has higher attendance than most important women's game in years")

Should be possible to do Liverpool to Nuneaton (might have to change at Crewe/Stafford though) and to Leicester from there.

It’s a strange choice, but pretty cool for the club to say it’s hosted it. Will make a nice bit of trivia in years to come.

Only right the current holders should host.

Let’s face it Man City struggle to sell a their full allocation for anything at Wembley where they get over 30000 tickets, Our capacity would be fine for them.

The Cup Final is different due to the numbers going to the FA ‘Family’.

I'd have thought Villa Park would be a more logical choice. 10k more capacity and a bit easier transport-wise.

But we're dealing with football authorities (see also Tirana).

Someone mentioned it might be the fact that Villa Park is dated in particular when it comes to corporate/hospitality. Location wise it's probably the much better choice as Birmingham is easily accessible from all directions and centrally located.

Not read the article but my assumption about Villa Park is that the Commonwealth Games are on in Bham that weekend. That's already a massive police undertaking for the city, they won't want 40k football fans flocking in as well.

Nuneaton seems to be the station to aim for.  I train in/out from Coleshill Parkway for every home game and the train's always gone from or to Bham New St.  However for this coming Sunday (Everton) it's rail replacement to Nuneaton.

This weekend it was bus replacement from Coleshill Parkway to New Street. Had the unfortunate pleasure of doing it. The same is occurring for Everton and Southampton at home.

HS2 works are occurring at the line between Bham New St and Water Orton hence the bus replacements
