Northern Ireland have been superb! Deserved a point really, Germany are clinging on

Hope they can get a win in Slovakia to have a chance of the top 2.

Sweden not going to be in the finals potentially so two high profile strikers getting a rest next summer

NI brilliant, Germany very very lucky.

Wirtz needs to toughen up if he wants to succeed in English football.

I reckon they’ll fancy their chances out in Slovakia.

Looks like Wales are going to have a must win game v Macedonia just to get a play off place which might be tricky.

Quite a long-winded backstory but could be in San Marino's interest to throw a qualifier if November.

They play Romania, who are above them in nations league qualifier order and currently third in WC group.

If Romania finish second, San Marino would then be on the cards to make the playoffs despite finishing bottom of group, as Romania would have made playoffs in own right rather than NL standing.

Romania need to overhaul GD to reach Bosnia though so we could be left with the farcical situation of San Marino needing to lose by a certain number of goals to progress.

Would very much bring the game into disrepute. Obviously would be great to see it happen

It's absolutely ridiculous. I actually really like the nations league and I think it's played a part in the upturn of lots of lesser nations - I'd say virtually all of the minnows have improved a bit.

But this is complete insanity, they really didn't think this through. Linking the nations league to the qualifiers should be stopped.

Going well for South Africa so far, 2-0 up v Rwanda. Nigeria beating Benin 1-0.

Assuming SA win, Nigeria can’t overtake them and Benin would likely need to win given the GD.

Congrats Bafana Bafana.

It means no Nigeria at the World Cup (sad for Wild). Cameroon can still likely make it through the play offs but it’s a bit of a journey.

Is there not a play off for the second place teams.

Only for the 4 best runners up. The winner of the Africa play offs then goes to another play off against the other continents in Mexico.

Yep and because that group has been competitive, the second place team had no chance of qualification. So you could be a poorer team but with an easier group and get into the play offs. Bit silly really.

i take this all back, it looks like Nigeria have made it to the play offs on goal difference
