Aka using Foxestalk to settle arguments #5874749

Simple enough - how do you text/type on a smart phone?

Assumption: you have both hands available and no surface to put the phone down on.

Good poll.
I wish I could speed type using both thumbs like my kids do.

I've seen people use those pens for screens with the rubberized tip.

I have one for the ipad but never use it.

I also suck at typing on smart phones hence the typos and crappy grammar etc.

On a computer keyboard my creativity runs wild with coherent sentences lol.

Seems an apt place to mention SwiftKey. I've used it for years and much better than the standard mobile keyboards in my experience.

I use SwiftKey but still barely actually use the Swipe Type feature.

Both hands / both thumbs.

I’m also the tool that uses the voice dictation for texting from the Apple play in the car, which gives nothing punctuation and makes up random words.

I would say surely this is the go to hold. I have my phone in my weak hand with my strong hand behind it in order to use both thumbs.

Swype was a game changer for me and weirdly I had it on a really shit phone before seemingly anybody else did so I had literally seconds of fun asking folk why it took them so long to type on their 50 quid a month devices

This was broadly my experience too.

We’ll have the last laugh. They’ll pay with arthritis when they’re older. Having said that, I seem to be developing arthritis in the base of both thumbs having never used them to type. Playing havoc with my attempt to learn to play the guitar.

Wish I could get used to it
