Precisely, I can't agree more.

Which is where lies the problem the he's looking for the negative pass, causing problems putting ourselves under pressure.

Honestly, I've genuinely never watched Evans and thought that and if there's examples, which I'm sure there must be, I'd like to be enlighten for my own sanity. Dont expect you to start digging them out by the way 🤣

For me I feel when fit he's been a Rolls Royce of a defender. Problem of course has been his fitness for the last 2 years. Coincided with out poor form too.

Surely we won't do it again. Another player who's quite clearly unable to stay fit. If we want experience, go out and get someone who's got the experience and who's body isn't falling to pieces. A fine defender in his time, but we're utterly obsessed with holding onto players well past their sell-by date. It's absurd.

Maybe Evans will accept a low offer? There's not going to be a long queue of clubs for a 35 year-old with his injury record. He might look at staying with us and not having to uproot his family as the best thing for him. If it's a one-year deal with a possible year extension on relatively low wages then maybe it's worth it.

Johnny Evan's good defender in his day, however he can no longer stay fit enough to cope with another season especially in the Championship low wages or not, he should be moved on, no room for sentiment now.

In each of his last 4 seasons his passing has progressed us up the pitch more than any other outfield player per 90

In 3 of those 4 seasons, he did that whilst also attempting less passes per 90 compared to his defensive partner - Soyuncu and Fofana

Not entirely sure I would say he is always looking for the negative pass

That's a great case of stats being used to make any argument. Not arguing with the facts but when you watch, he's so bloody ponderous and slow in his decision making. Can still make the most progressive passes (whatever that actually means) if he has the ball for longer than any other player. Against the 2 you've listed, I'd also imagine that their ball carrying per 90 was significantly better than Evans so that's their way of getting the ball up the pitch.

The idea that he always makes negative passes is ott and he's actually a great passer, but he's the antithesis of quick build up play and I've lost count of the amount of times where he dithers on the ball when we need a goal in the last few mins. Been a fantastic signing but his time is up.

I think this highlights where the club are in their plans. One boxed ticked with Hamza and the same with Evans. Just all stinks of desperation and zero plan.

Like the start of last year dithering around and then it’s too late, Evans is an easy option for the club, maybe they think he’d help out with the likes of Ben Nelson and worth it for 20 games a year. For me i think he’s past it but literally I’m not sure we’re even capable of putting together and young hungry talented squad this season.

What we want as fans is different to the club that refused to spend a penny last summer and now we’re up sht creek without a paddle. Moving Evans on and then spending a few million on a new CB, maybe the club can ill afford to.

I am not totally against this, especially if happy to accept a pay cut. From what I observed in the last 2 games he played, our defence was much better organised as a unit. Get him fit and better defensive midfield organisation and I think this will be a good move

The vitriol towards Evans staying is unwarranted.

If he were fit all season then he'd have likely provided the points to keep us up. We have to move forward on good faith that he'll at least play half the games if he signs. If he can manage that then he'll be valuable at championship level.

I’ve got nothing but love for Jonny, but that’s like saying “if I were 8 1/2 feet tall, I’d be the best shot blocker in the NBA.” Both of those things have the same odds of occurring.

Thanks for your service Jonny, but it’s time to move on.

If he’ll accept a low enough contract, I’d want him to stay and be back up. If Castagne and Ricardo go, who is the defensive leader then? There’s not even an experienced keeper in there.

Think we’d get enough games out of him and presence in the dressing room to get value for money out of him for another season. It’ll be down to whether he wants to take that cut and that will be down to what other offers he gets.

Absolute madness. This Club 😆

What a complete waste of cash. We need a settled side in the championship. Can't keep rolling Evans out every couple of months when he fancies a game

Maybe, apart from occasional player, he could also serve a purpose in helping to develop the younger CBs.

I think he might end up with a player / coach role

Has been doing his coaching badges, play when possible, and to still try and play for Northern Ireland

Its absolutely ridiculous we are even considering giving him a new deal, he's never fit, he's injury prone, ageing, expensive and a pretty useless leader.

What happens when we appoint a new manager and he doesn't fancy him?

Ridiculous decision.

If it’s on the cheap, I’m not against it if it’s the start of his transition towards the back room.

As literally everyone has said, we’ve lacked leaders recently and that’s including the staff. Would be good to get more Leicester on the bench. Evans has been an important player for us.

Pay as you play should be the only option for Jonny Evans.

Agreed, but do you think Evans would agree to pay an amount that would allow us to sign a decent centre back?

Oh. Did you mean LCFC should pay him based on games played? Because if so, I’d pass. He takes up a valuable roster spot and his leadership is meh at best based on the team’s performance last year and his consistently lackluster quotes after matches and at the end of the season. Wish him well, get him gone.

Considering just how many CBs we are going to need to bring in, I am happy at the thought of having an experienced player like him in the team personally.
