Cropwellfox Posted 18 August 2022 Posted 18 August 2022 My expected highlights - no players are close to leaving - Barnes not ready yet - Dan Amartey is a capable left sided CB - look at wolves have done with nunes, we aren’t at that level - You can see we need reinforcements but I’ve not been able to do that - set piece coach still not with us - Wes has been training well as has Youri - not down to me whether players are still here. I’ll work with what I’ve got (in grudging tone) - not a must win game we will show our quality over the season 1 2 1

We'll operate the club until our last player has left or snuffed it and then send the fans dog shit in the post and fold the club • Confident of showing our identity on Saturday and getting 3 points The way that things have been going for the past year, I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is what happened.

Seriously, there are some people who think Amartey was decent last season or is good enough for us? FML. I think he was relatively solid for decent stretches of last season, although quite limited on the ball etc. However he’s a complete liability when he’s played as LCB and shouldn’t be anywhere near the first eleven in that position. He can fill in at RCB when needed but clearly isn’t the calibre of player we want as first choice. 1

Stadt Posted 18 August 2022 Posted 18 August 2022 Rodgers on Wes: "It's great to see him in training, you know he has that [experience] in abundance and he brings us that physicality that you need to compete at this level. He's not match fit yet but his experience as a Premier League winning captain is amazing, it's an asset to everybody here. To bring him in as an addition is exactly what we need." 4
LVFox Posted 18 August 2022 Posted 18 August 2022 Praying we play a diamond. Can think of a few times it’s really worked for us, but struggling to think when it hasn’t!

Popular Post moore_94 Posted 18 August 2022 Popular Post Posted 18 August 2022 (edited) Brendan Rodgers Pre-Match Press Conference vs Southampton Bids for Fofana? “There’s nothing new from when we last spoke.” Fofana told you he wants to leave? “We’ve spoken numbers of times about the situation. We’ve had private conversations. Our communication is normal.” Tricky for him? “It’s a challenge for any player, when the window is open and there is lots of noise, especially for a young player. That’s why we’re here, to help him and educate him and let him deal with all of these rumours. The focus is on the weekend." Difficult for a manager? “There’s no denying it. It’s always a tricky period. Your season is starting, you’re trying to get focused, and you spend your summer creating this powerful collective unit, and then there is lots of speculation. These are young guys and it’s the first time they have experienced this for some of them. There can be disruption. The idea is to keep the group focused. The minute the window ends, it all ends.” Will Fofana still be here after the window closes? “I don’t think so far ahead. The idea is that he is very much a Leicester player. He’s not for sale. Unless anything changes, I would expect him to be here." Any fringe players close to leaving? “Nothing on that as far as I’m aware.” Barnes? “Harvey Barnes is back in training so that’s really good for us. He’s looked excellent, he’s looked fit. He had a really good pre-season. He should be available.” What did you mean by lack of experience? “We’ve got numbers of players, you can talk about James Justin, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, they’re not overly experienced. That’s what I was referring to.” Last summer's window a success? “What we’ve looked at, the players who came in, Jannik was coming in as a cover player for us. Jannik was very clear on his role. We still had Evans and Cags and Daniel Amartey. He was coming in as fourth-choice centre-half. Ryan was coming in as an experienced player like Christian Fuchs. Soumare was a player who came in and he was going to be a hybrid between Wilf or Youri, meaning he could play when they were not. Patson has had more game-time. It’s a fair question, but I think it’s a fair answer to say they were coming in as cover players.” Last summer affect this summer? “It’s from before. It’s not just last summer. It’s a combination of a number of years. It’s unfair to isolate those players and say it’s just those players.” Vice captain? "Marc Albrighton was the choice from the coaches, the fellow players. It was unanimous really. He's a model professional. They set a standard every day, Jonny and Marc, the level of how they commit themselves to their work. It's a comfort to other players that they are there to support them." No incomings? “Not at the moment. The work has been with the players who are here.” Frustrating no arrivals? “It’s one where I’ve said before. Every manager wants to strengthen. My experience tells me you have to concentrate on what you have, a wonderful group that want to get better. If we get some luck with no injuries, then we can still have a really good season.” Barnes importance? “It’s always important for how we play. We’ve always tried to be flexible and have that adaptability. We are limited with wide players, so we had to adjust when he was out.” Post-Arsenal assessment? “It was the same as after the last game. It was a mixed bag, with some good moments in the game. The timing of the goals hurt us. Arsenal deserved to win but we could have made them more nervous than we did. We have to manage the game better.” Need to be more cute? “It’s managing the ball. The last goal, we have given the ball away. It’s a constant message. We don’t always have to put the ball at risk. It’s about having game experience. That’s something we can do better." Maddison? “He’s continued on from where he was at the end of last season. He looks strong and dynamic. He’s created a goal and scored a goal already. He plays with personality and charisma. He can play at the very highest level and thankfully he’s at that level.” This weekend? “I want to see us playing with intensity that has defined us. When we have been very good, that’s our game. If we can play to that level, we have shown we can get good results consistently.” Southampton? “It’s always a difficult game against Southampton. They’ve made signings so have a freshness in the squad. They showed their spirit last week. The onus is on. We played 60 minutes of our last home game to a good level. Two weeks on, we want to show that improvement.” Conceding after scoring? “It can happen. Especially after you score, that’s the most vulnerable time in a game. We’ve done it the other way. We did it at Leeds. It’s difficult when you’ve got yourself just back into the game. It’s mistakes at times. It’s something you want to learn and can learn, but sometimes it’s part of the game. The idea is to show we have learned." When were you told change in financial situation? “The communication has always been very good between myself and the board. When I spoke in February, it was clear we wanted to improve the squad. Towards the end of the season, it was clear there were going to be issues around that. When I came back for pre-season, it was clear then that it would be a challenge for us. The communication is open. Back then, I did not envisage we would be in the position we’re in. The game is changing all the time. Over the course of the summer, I was speaking with players we wanted to sign. We were clear on positions to improve. I spent my summer trying to convince them to come.” What's the situation? “I don’t know the finances of the club. I run the football department. If they say we can’t sign a player, I trust the club.” Barnes can start? “We’ll decide if he can be in from the start. He’s looked good in training. He may be available to start. It might not be 90 minutes. We’ll assess that tomorrow.” 4-3-3? “It certainly opens up that possibility if there is a winger that gives you that speed in the game.” Fofana mentally fine? “He’s fine. As you can imagine, with the spotlight on you and the talk around what you can earn at another club, it’s a challenge. He’s been brilliant since he arrived here. The club have really stuck by him while he was injured. He’s shown he’s a top young talent. He knows this is an important step for his career." Not pick a player who is not in right headspace? “We are not a team, if the players are not committed to the club, if they are not in the right mindset, that won’t help us. We have to make sure everyone is focused.” Why Albrighton as VC? "He's absolutely brilliant. I've had a few of those players here now. They are really important figures for us. When he plays, he gives everything to the cause. He wants to play. I can't speak highly enough of him. He has the total respect of his team-mates." Edited 18 August 2022 by moore_94 1 5

Ric Flair Posted 18 August 2022 Posted 18 August 2022 Good to see him answer the lack of experience remark, even though KDH has shown consistency and a level of performance far superior to the majority of this squad for a long while now. 1

KFS Posted 18 August 2022 Posted 18 August 2022 That presser is a car crash. Sorry. Calling out KDH and JJ as inexperienced. Great. Wonder how they feel hearing that. Spending multi-millions on wages and transfer fees for ‘cover players’. Wonder how Liverpool touted Patson Daka feels being described as that. As for Marc being VC, love the guy and he’s a legend but **** me he won’t play? Both our Captain and VC likely won’t even be here next year. 1 1
