Can't see us going for anyone who wants big wages.

This would probably rule out Akanji as a senior member of a UCL side then.

Beaurigarde (sp?), Ndicka and Lacroix are probably more likely on this basis.

I actually rate Akanji (looks like I’m in the minority), granted I’ve not seen him too often but always looked really comfortable on the ball when I have.

I have major issues with us shopping in the “27 year old, looking for the biggest contract of his career” market though. It’s really not what we should be about as a club

With our wage situation being as it is, it seems quite unlikely we'll go for such a player.

It'll be a French lad in his early twenties for £30m on £30k a week who'll be worth three times that in three years.

Can we claim on insurance when our famed medical team treat his troublesome hip with a chainsaw?

Get him on a free > Retire him medically > Claim insurance = Genius business.

Ticks all the boxes, would cost at least £30-40m though. Ndicka would only cost £15-20m as only a year left on his contract and similar ability and potential.

Don't get why people on hear saying Akanji is shit, he's actually not, he's much better than all our cb's than apart from Fofana who is now gone. I understand people know Dortmund have defensive issues, but that's been around for extremely long time. Akanji will improve us

Well its a no from me and I'd never heard of him.

Not being silly but if you haven't heard of him and that's the criteria for signings, the pool of players you'd approve us signing from is going to be less swimming pool and more rock pool.

I'm going on a Google search of this chap and it appears that he's a bit of a money grabber and his stats aren't great ( from what little info I have). This coupled with his age my gut feeling is move on. So its still a no from me.

Never heard of him (don't follow European footy) can't remember a more negative reaction from the Foxestalk fountains of knowledge about a possible signing!

I think it’s this guy.

Why?

Borussia Dortmund's Manuel Akanji has the brawn and the brains to thrive at the very highest level for years to come - and that's just the opinion of legendary Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Never heard of him, but I think the last foreign-based player we signed who I had heard of was Esteban Cambiasso.

Fair enough if the critics are people who watch Bundesliga regularly, but if he plays regularly for Borussia Dortmund and Switzerland he can't be a bad player.

And people moaning at us signing a 27 year old "with no resale value" is ridiculous. It's not remotely old and buying an experienced centre back has worked out well plenty of times before (Morgan, Huth, Wasilewski, Evans, even Elliott and Taggart going back a bit).

I know we've been stung by some bad transfers in the last couple of years but the negativity on this forum is so over the top.

So you hadn't heard of Inler, Slimani, Ghezzal, Tielemans, Praet etc etc??

I know they've had mixed fortunes.... but they weren't total unknowns!
