Got to be a song in there somewhere

To the tune of “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain”

Oh, Wout Faes is in our backline, what a guy! (What a guy!)
Oh, Wout Faes is in our backline, what a guy! (What a guy!)
He multiplies the dumplings,
Keeps attackers fumbling,
Oh, Wout Faes is in our backline, what a guy! (What a guy!)

Faes isn’t fit to lace Soyuncu’s boots.

Soyuncu was miles clear of Faes. Faes is a championship defender.

Exactly. I understand the comparison on a very basic level but Soyuncu at his best was immense (got in the PFA team of the year). And even when it all went wrong for him, it wasn't like he made a huge mistake (could be a positional error, bad pass etc.) every single game which Faes does, almost without fail (even if that doesn't lead to a goal). Because of that, he's simply not a good defender and I don't understand why some people think he is. His dominant performances aren't anywhere near the level of Soyuncu/Fofana and he's still giving up a glorious chance to the opposition once a game. Pointless him having a good game and then doing that as it undoes all that work.

Individual success in football is so much about timing and confidence, something we should know better than any other fanbase. We've had tonnes of players that went from a decent championship player for most of their career to suddenly becoming a good PL player. Would have been interesting to see what level Soyuncu stayed at if these 2 things aligned for him.

I agree that Caglar was better but he still has lapses of concentration/brain storms like Faes. They're both temperamentally unsuited to be top PL defenders, IMO. I'm not sure  with Caglar whether it's a temporary thing or not as he went a couple of seasons not being so reckless. Might depend on who was partenering him?

But not in the same way and not nearly as often. Plus he could absolutely dominate attackers, something that Faes can't do. Soyuncu was a front foot defender so he would of course run the risk of making an error but at his best, that rarely happened. He got in the PFA team of the year here and over in Germany so it's hardly like it was a flash in the pan. He was a brilliant player who lost confidence and has never found it again.

Definitely needed a defender who could marshall the backline (Evans was that guy).

Can't get my head around multiplies the dumplings, what the **** does it even mean

Who knows but I can’t wait to spent £100 on a new Varsity jacket with this as the slogan on the front.

He multiplies the dumplings has absolutely buried me 😂

I bet he’s Wout has been “stewing” over it himself.

I would take Cags back in a heartbeat.   He is twice the player Faes will ever be.   I never ever wanted him to leave.

I wouldn't take him back. I think the Turkish league is his level now.

For me it's a lot about coaching & systems.  Good managers get the best out of good players & Cags is still a good player.

Wout Faes has looked brilliant at times & horrible at others.   Enzo thought Faes could be top class but I don't think Cooper has the same coaching skills as Enzo !!

Glover gets credit for finding Mavididi and Fatawu but his defensive signings of Faes, Khristiansen and Souttar have been horrendous waste of money.

I wish this guy found his move to Real Madrid that he wanted
