Iran have been absolutely awful today but in 2018 they beat Morocco, drew 1-1 with Portugal and only just lost to Spain 1-0. They’re an incredibly negative side for sure and not what they were a few years ago but at least they’ve qualified to be there and are a footballing country. Not really comparable to Qatar in the sense described, although I suppose Qatar are trying impose themselves as a footballing country.

 

The political unrest probably isn’t helping the performance either imo.

Literally the whole point of the World Cup is that these sides get a chance to play just as much as anyone else.

 

If you can't get behind that I really don't know why you're watching any world cup, regardless of whether it's this one.

 

Next you'll be moaning that non-league sides have no place in the FA Cup. Literally the whole point.

I think for me it's the fact that absolute dross can qualify whereas good teams like Italy (and Netherlands previously) don't make it because it's harder to qualify in certain regions.

If you have to cancel one of those subs to take Maguire off, why would it be Wilson you cancel?

 

I don't understand why Southgate doesn't take as many opportunities as possible to give as many minutes as possible to alternatives to Harry Kane. Kane is obviously world class but what happens if he gets an injury and you've never bothered preparing for life without him?

 

Foden and Grealish aren't exactly going to tell you anything new, you know what they're going to come on and do in an England shirt.
