There's just a little something missing from this England team.

A decent head coach

Sometimes Wales look hopeless for ages but then perk themselves up for the 6 nations but guess that seems unlikely this time.

We're easily the smallest tier 1 nation (unless we really are including Fiji these days.) Depth has always been the Welsh problem, the likes of England, France, South Africa et all have a vastly bigger player pool than us.

Gatland has always used summer tours and autumn Internationals to experiment and rotate and try and cultivate more depth and it's always thrown up shock results that people have over reacted to every time. I've lost count of the amount of times we've been written off for a Six Nations or World Cup because we've had some embarrassing results in the months before and people have forgotten their history.

This is something very different, though. We've just had almost an entire 15 retire over the last 18 months and we're talking multiple grand slam winners and world cup semi finalists.

All happening at a time when youth development and participation are crashing, the regions are in dire financial mess, the WRU are dealing with open revolt across the Welsh public and pretty much 30 years of amateurish mismanagement are catching up with them.

The Welsh game won't recover without considerable reform.

The only way we'll be Six Nations contenders again in the next generation is if a genuinely phenomenal coach comes along and elevates some of these youngsters we've got now. But as much as I like some of the lads coming through, they're a long way from the babies Gats took to NZ in 11. Even with better, more modern coaching, they'd have a ceiling much lower.

I never thought I'd ever say this but the upturn for the Aussies is the best thing that's happened to international rugby in years. They are playing some great running rugby & I can't wait to see them take on the Scots & Irish.

It shows the value of having a quality coach

RIP rugby union in the UK.

Literally nobody wants this.

To be clear, mind, the Rugby Pass story is rubbish and nothing has been finalised. But it's been coming for ages and it'll happen eventually.

The reduction in the number of Tier A sporting events that must be shown on free to air TV in last decade or so is shocking.

All down to money .

I suspect it might be like the next FA cup deal .

Some on TNT and a bit on FTA.
