I like what Kyle Walker is saying about dealing with Mbappe. He’s talking with confidence and sounds up for it. Good on him.

I can’t see it being anything other than an attritional game. Both coach’s will be more concerned about the others strengths and trying to nullify them, rather than concentrating on their own.

I just think it’ll come down to a moment, or a couple of moments of individual quality. That could come from either team but I can’t look past Mbappe. He’s absolutely mustard. It’ll be close. 2-1 but not sure who to. Probably France

I'm going to have a bet on 0-0 after ET and penos now you have said that lol

I wouldn't say either team have been dull though.

Both teams have been great in spells but that's about it. To be honest the quality in this world cups not been fantastic from anyone really imo.

Made for some really good games though.

Edit: now I've said that bet on 12-12 at the end of extra time with a pickford hateick 90+4,5,6

I'd rather not.

Ok, I've put the bet on. If I lose my thousand pounds it's your fault.

It's on you for listening to a stranger on the Internet.

I'll take a cut if you win though

Anyone can say what they'd do or wouldn't do or how to deal with him or that person much more difficult in practic. You only have to fail to mark Mbappe once and bang a goal down or put too many on him and you fail to deal with Giroud. Its about working collectively as a unit as well as individual responsibility. Easy in your head extremely tough in practice.

Remember when Kyle Walker kept getting caught out of position and then just ran into the back of our players, giving us a couple of penalties when we beat Man City 5-2 at The Etihad? He's got great recovery speed, which is a great asset, but I'd rather he concentrate on not getting beat in the first place.

The thing I don't get is the hype and praise put on Southgate so far.  It's dangerous.

England have looked decent but then again, the starting lineups we've played against:

Iran: 0 players from the top 5 leagues

USA: Included players from Chelsea, Arsenal, Leeds, Fulham, AC Milan, Juventus, Lille, Valencana, Atelyspor and Nashville FC.

Wales: Spurs, Fulham, Leicester, Bournemouth, Swansea, Nice, Rennes, Spezia and LA Galaxy

Senegal: Chelsea, Leicester, Valencano, RB Leipzig, Monaco, Sheff Utd, Watford, Salernitana

England's last starting XI: Dortmund, Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Everton.

So, 4 games in, 3 convincing wins and a draw would be the minimum expectation from any England manager with the resources we have available, imo.

France is a step up and a half.  A real test.  Their team v Poland started with Barcelona, both Madrid teams, AC Milan, Juventus, PSG, Man Utd, Spurs and Bayern Munich.

France have top quality all over the pitch and I expect it's going to be a very difficult match.  I'll be watching more in hope than expectation.  I think France have to be favourites.

If we do get through, then England will have genuinely laid a marker and will have well a truly earned their spot in the last 4 and be in with a genuine shout.

You can only beat what’s put in front of you. Germany, Belgium, Spain all played similar ranked sides and not faired so well. Argentina lost to Saudi, how many of their players play in the top leagues! I think we can give the manager ‘some’ credit.

This. He is nailed on to give a penalty away against France.

Because he had one poor match against us over 2 years ago?

No, someone as quick as Mbappe could turn him and Walker in his sprint to recover could run into him if Mbappe is clever enough to anticipate it.

You wait and see.

Because he hasn't faced fast clever players since?

I agree in all likelihood our back four will be skinned alive by their attacking players, I don't think Walker is "nailed on" to foul Mbappe for a penalty though.

Kyle Walker has won a truck load of trophies and plays for a better and more successful club team than Mbappe and has faced him before. They are peers, no way anyone who has been at that level for as long as Walker has will fear another player. Not saying he’ll easily handle mbappe but I read this story on bbc and was searching for where the story was

I still think this competition doesn’t have a favourite. other than morroco and croatia i genuinely think the other teams are simply equals. It’s a proper cup contest now and anything could happen.

on our day, of course we can win this. The one worry i’d have, is that we suddenly switch to a back 5. we will crumble if we sit back in this. Have a go at them and there’s no reason we can’t do them

Walker will be doing great, then Stones jumps into somebody..Penalty.

But no difference, England fly out the blocks..and a Kane Hatrick sees us scoring 3 goals in the first 20 minutes,Foden adds a Fourth, then Rashford comes on to seal it..

Hard fought but we win 5-3..

Maddison gets 15 minutes and gets an

assist...

You see I don't have nightmares, only positive dreams...

And my wife Wakes me up,with a cup of tea,and I miss the all in a huggle & Southgate's love in with the team..
