this will give a good indicator of where we are as a team. We need intensity in our press and our game management must be spot on if we are to get something out of this meaningless friendly  important fixture against tough opposition

Leicester City welcome back familiar face as they take on French side in friendly
Leicester City will play Ligue 1 outfit Troyes at their Seagrave headquarters this weekend, with former defender Patrick Kisnorbo on the touchline as their new manager

Leicester City’s behind-closed-doors friendly this weekend will see a familiar face return to the club.

City are hosting Ligue 1 side Troyes at their Seagrave training base as part of their preparations for the return of competitive domestic football in just over a week’s time. On the touchline at Seagrave will be the club’s former centre-back Patrick Kisnorbo.

The Australian defender, who played 140 games for City between 2005 and 2009, was appointed as the new manager at Troyes just a fortnight ago. He moved over from Melbourne City, his first managerial job in men’s football, where he twice won the A-League title.

To get ready for his first official match against Nantes in Ligue 1 later this month, he has brought his team over to England, and will take on his old side on Saturday afternoon. They have been training this week at Manchester City’s Etihad Campus, with Troyes, and indeed Melbourne City, both part of the City Football Group.

Before his team even kick a ball, Kisnorbo has made history. He is the first Australian to take charge of a club in Europe’s top five leagues.

“It’s surreal to be honest. We all have ambitions and for me, it’s not any different. I want to be one of the best coaches in the world,” Kisnorbo told the Australian Associated Press.

“I’ve been given this opportunity that not many people get and I’m very grateful and humbled to have that. It’s great, now you can see that Australian coaches are good – they hold value.

“We do a lot back home so hopefully there’s other coaches that have the opportunity to come overseas because the more Australian coaches that come overseas, the better. People don’t understand how hard it is just to do what coaches do to get these opportunities, because it’s very difficult.”

Troyes went into the World Cup break on the back of a seven-game winless run. While they are 13th at the moment, the risk of relegation is real, especially as four teams will go down this season, with Ligue 1 changing their format from 20 teams to 18.

He said: “That’s the next step, once you move from Australia where there’s no relegation. I’ve never experienced it. It’s the unknown. So time will tell, the way things pan out. But you know me – I just think of the one game and I keep pushing on and see where it takes us.”

For Brendan Rodgers and City, Troyes will provide a decent test for his group, with the players who went on the trip to Abu Dhabi in contention to feature. There could be appearances for young players like Sammy Braybrooke, Joe Wormleighton, Kasey McAteer, and Will Alves.

City Football group must rate Kisnorbo if they're moving him around the group.

Wonder if Troyes will also be playing Man City while they're over.

I remember Kisnorbo challenging for a header and going down injured. He was clearly badly injured but got up after treatment and made the same challenge moments later. That was the end of his career.  Was one of the bravest things I've ever seen.

A true hero to me.
