Not going to come in here and turn us into mid-00s Chelsea but we'll be a damn sight better with him over Amartey. Scotch Posted 30 January 2023 Posted 30 January 2023 Apparently Paddy Power have closed the market on Souttar's next club. Had a look and it wasn't there on their transfer specials but I can't 100% say that it was before so...

YesNdidi Posted 30 January 2023 Posted 30 January 2023 Surely £12m + add ons gets rejected no? Factoring in the sell-on percentage, I doubt Stoke would be happy with £9.6m up front for their star player. I'd say it depends how desperate they are, but it seems they hold the cards here.

If we have a four of Kristiansen, Maddison, Tielemans and Castagne offering sensible passes for him then all he would need to do is sit in deep and mop up as he should be. So its like playing with a player less in midfield while we’re on the ball and looking to control the game then? Look at any decent side and all of their defensive midfielders are decent on the ball. All the opposition has to do is mark Maddison and Tielemans out the game and leave Ndidi isolated on the ball then we are ****ed. So much better side with Mendy playing Edited 30 January 2023 by South Shire Fox

dannythefox Posted 30 January 2023 Posted 30 January 2023 Fancy this kid, he’s looked decent this season. No brainer really be worth double next season if it works out.

All the opposition has to do is mark Maddison and Tielemans out the game and leave Ndidi isolated on the ball then we are ****ed. So much better side with Mendy playing As I just said, in order for it to work he needs to have multiple passing options open to him. It's not a coincidence that Ndidi's form dropped off at the same time that we changed shape. He's not magically become a bad player, has he? He was always technically limited. But previously he had Tielemans, Maddison, Evans, a confident Soynuncu, Ricardo Pereira and Chilwell to distribute to. Now he's got isolated full backs who aren't advancing, a marked Tielemans, no Maddison, Daniel Amartey and whoever else surrounding him in a team that's regressed enormously and half the side are terrified of the ball. We've played maybe the best football (title winning season aside) we've played in the entire Premier League era under Brendan Rodgers with Wilfred Ndidi in the side. But then all he had to do is sit back as the anchor in that midfield and allow more talented players the space to push on and commit bodies to the attacking third. That's all we should be doing with him. It's not "playing with a man less", it's that man enabling the rest of the team to actually do their best work. Now what we have is a manager too afraid to actually let us commit bodies forward so we have full backs that are rarely allowed to cross halfway, the knock on from that is that our wide players get isolated and doubled up on or - in Madders case - completely leave their flank vacant anyway. Tielemans in turn isn't really allowed to progress, he ends up being stuck shackled back to his defensive duties. The whole thing is a mess. The best possible side we can put out now is still, as it was in 2019, a 433 with Wilf protecting the back four enabling Tielemans, Maddison and attacking full backs to actually get on the ball pushing in to the opposition half. 6
Aleksz Posted 30 January 2023 Posted 30 January 2023 (edited) The ITK on the stoke forum is still adamant this has been agreed for a few days… “Like I said, last week, the offer went in last week. 2 rejected 1 agreed. Media are behind.” ”Stoke are happy. Leicester are happy. Harry is happy. Like I said earlier in the week, I would be absolutely gobsmacked if it didn’t go through.” “After everything it’s higher than £15m with adds ons, I think it’s up to 19,20 after clauses.” Seems a bit odd to me it would have been agreed that long and it’s only just getting out now but time will tell I guess. Seems like they all trust him. Edited 30 January 2023 by Aleksz 1
