Jonathan Pearce suggested that we are very brittle in cup matches. Rodgers has actually won 12 of 13 matches against lower division opposition with the only defeat being at Forest!

It's the same every time a "small" club comes up against a "big" club but the commentary was predictably insufferable.

Both Jonathan and the other commentator were absolutely desparate for a Gillingham goal.

Maybe he was referencing Newport and Millwall

At what point do you stop referring to games from past years under past managers though? The number of times this season they refer to how long it is since Forest did whatever in the Premier League is annoying. Obviously it 20 plus years they haven't been in this league since 1999. It has no relevance to today.

The only reason the BBC were there as it had potential to be an upset. As a neutral that would've been the only reason to take an interest. Focus was always going to be on the Sleeping giant, aka Gillingham. Only surprise that it took Pearce and 15 minutes before he managed to shoehorn Bristol City into his commentary.

All media will be, because it's small club v big club. They're all gonna want the small club to win and I have nothing wrong with that.

But it shows how good our win was. We've seen Newcastle/Villa dumped out by lower league clubs and we didn't need to be one of them as well. Best to get there, get the job done in whatever way and get back. That's why I find it strange when people bang on about it only being 1-0, who gives a fvck as long as we win. Cup games against lower league teams can be really difficult.

Exactly. Measurement of scoreline means absolutely nothing we did what we had to do with what we had and that's all that matters!

Yeah its the easiest thing in the world to criticise and i think we were pretty comfortable. The conditions were terrible and everything felt geared towards an upset. These kind of games (similar to all the games in our Premier League winning run-in) show just how much difference there is when everyone to a man is putting in 100%. If Gillingham had that effort every week there's no way they'd be where they are. We all used to say it about our teams after cup games when we were in the Championship.

What does worry me with the 3 at the back and passive phases where we are just happy to keep the ball is IF the opposition were to score. We very rarely have a plan B and we are incredibly easy to defend against when we are behind.

Not sure Gillingham fall under the criteria of Sleeping giant

We're generally good at seeing away lower league opposition, which is handy seeing as we seem to almost exclusively draw lower league opposition under Rodgers.

This season we've made tough work when playing bottom of league 2 twice though.

It’s no longer relevant that we won the league, never mind Forest. Teams change year to year.

He probably got confused and meant our record on Robot Wars. Would not fancy Vestergaard's chances against a front two of Sergeant Bash and Matilda, that's for sure.
