"Living again"

Not like we were paying him £50 a week is it??

I liked Mendy and it's classic Leicester to hang onto a player for so long who was rarely more than a squad player.

...the money is pretty much secondary when you are not getting on to the pitch every Saturday!!!

As Drinkwater was saying, he would have been getting paid sitting on the bench, but that was not how he wanted to earn the money.

Winks is such a huge upgrade on him in that role. He’d have been just as pointless in this division as he was in the PL.

Will never understand why people were sad to see Mendy go. All he ever did was play the simplest easiest passes to get his pass success % up and some seemed to think that was the sign of being a good midfielder as he kept it “ticking over”, when he was constantly breaking down counter attacks and missing chance creating opportunities by refusing to ever play anything remotely forward thinking or risky.

He was the perfect Brendan ball player who could pass it around 7,000 times a game without ever doing anything of note with those passes.

Clearly not as Brendan didn’t play him

I don't accept this at all.

If money didn't matter to your average player there would be a greater spread of ability across the clubs.

Naive to say money didn't have a say in him resigning his contract.

We do not know if he had to take a cut in his original salary, but if you are not happy in your work, the money is some kind of comfort, it keeps a roof over your family's head, but he could have gone elsewhere and perhaps get less and a better mental lifestyle.

No matter where you are on the debate on whether you’re playing for the money or the joy of it I do have difficulty with these kind of statements. They’re not exactly surviving on the minimum wage and having to budget from month to month just to get by.

I remember the LIV golfers talking about “doing what’s best for their families” or Jordan Henderson’s recent trite statements after accepting the big bucks to go to Saudi.

There’s nothing wrong in doing things for the money as a lot of us might do the same in their situation. But I’d respect them a lot more if there was just a bit of honesty.

He'd have gotten football on a fabulous wage - annual salary a week - at whole host of clubs. Undeniable. He went to a champions League club when we were relegated.

What kept him at a place he didn't feel alive with that option available?

Let's no be bleeding hearts about this. Those two years would have been highly profitable so he sacrificed football. You can't then moan about that. It's a double edged sword.

I don't have the sympathy that some have.

Jesus,   have you ever read the article?  Mendy said he wanted to leave but was not allowed to.   I recall that there was a move that fell through for Mendy at one point too?

Mendy may have been paid very well, he also may have not thoroughly enjoyed his time here.

He may have had his moves blocked etc etc.

A lot of maybes but I come with one certainty….Rodgers is a cock.

Yet he signed a contract for a further two years.

It's staggering how much Rodgers has cost this club in lost transfer fees, player devaluation and of course relegation.  If the player doesn't fit then sell them and get other players - don't just let them stagnate and release them for nothing several years later.

Rodgers getting slated by a lot of people over this.

The article says that Rodgers didn't play him (or infers want him), but it was the club that wouldn't let him leave.

I'd put this at either Rudkin's door or its a sign of disagreements within the club, but unlike Soyuncu, not sure this lost transer fee is all on Rodgers.

Here 7 seasons had a handful of decent games and people still can't let guy go.

Guy hated that much he signed a new contract :appl:

Another player who was playing for the club for the wrong reason.

Funny thing it was Rodgers wh rekindled his career, after 1-2 seasons,of really niggling out on contention injuries..

Then when in good form & not short of top performances,he was “again”

pushed to the Bench..

Perssonally he belongs in my top 3 (4th??) player mystery .From last season..

Soyuncu,Iversen,Mendy.( Choudhury.?) If they had been introduced/kept in the team

We wouldn’t be talking of them in the past tense, and still playing PL football..

This thread sums up why Mendy is underrated, he's a holding midfielder who can keep possession, ticks the boxes for the basics but lack of flashiness means he is not well regarded. Sometimes you just got to be solid and let others take the glory.

Thread shows why Mendy was overrated. People use meaningless, vague phrases like “ticks the boxes” “keeps possession” “keeps us ticking over” and try and accuse others of not understanding football and “it’s only because he lacks flashiness” that you can’t see it.

There’s always been a certain type of elitism from some fans who rated Mendy, as though they could understand the game to a deeper level to those who don’t.

Yet one look at his fbref stats show he was a poor player not a “tidy” one. His stats never showed he even stood out at the “basics” and showed we performed worse with him as a team even when the alternative in Ndidi was awful. And of course you need to be “more than solid”, the game isn’t just about keeping possession if you never play it in a progressive way. Counter attacks are broken down and attacks stopped dead several times a game by players who aren’t competent at making risky through balls and only ever pass to feet.

Or you like those other fans are showing just another opinion..on seeing the good balls, the swift movement & pivotal in counter attack…

We the fans would all love to have that all seeing eye,go contra go to the status quo,but I look at all Forums as people, who want to put their view of the situation, but

not so rivitted to its stock interpretation, more open to the discussion on any of the slight variables.

Some lead with intent and aggressive-defensive ideas & opinions, others with softly, softly with a kink approach. Then those demons,or angels, who don’t see a need to get onto an individual players case, every 5 minutes and belittle every asset a player has.

We are talking about people, who have found a way to follow their dream & will aspire to varying levels, most with a massive range that is the backbone of what we follow..those real top stars are not the norm, but the gravy, then one even argues the point over the quality of that gravy and adds one satisfaction of presentation of Yorkshire pudding..

Then each one of us,will sit ,compare then share the top 5 best ever players for each position over your long or short supporting years, then we venture into the No1s of that top 5…

My point is,so we can have that last paragraph conversation,we need

those “Also rans”   because unwittingly they carry the burden of churning out the possibilties of seeing 11 blokes on a club/League platform so we the fans can support them…warts n all..
Thats why I personally don’t go too heavy on getting on players cases or create agendas, which leads to top heavy negativity..

Jesus, do you have an idea of the timeline. He had already been side-lined by Rodgers and wasn't playing. He then signed a new contract. He would have been free to leave if he were out of contract - that's how a contract works.

Fair enough,   I forgot about the new contract.  Cannot argue with that although we have to acknowledge that financial security has some weighting but at end of the day, it was a clean opportunity to leave.

Can I just have one last opportunity to input one more 'Jesus' in the conversation 😆
