We have to move on. Of all the mistakes that we’ve made over the last few years, the failure to find his replacement ranks among the biggest.

Not really. It's not exactly easy to find strikers of his calibre is it?  It's not like you see every other Premier League club with their own 20+ goals a season strikers is it? You've got Toney and....? No striker comes close to him that we could have realistically signed.

Never bringing in a right winger that can get amongst the goals and contribute effectively to the attack is a mistake they could have done better with. Replacing the best striker to play for the club is probably not such an easy feat.

On a wider note, it's a massive branding coup for the EFL to have him in the league. He'll be plastered over their promo. Surely the highest profile player to have ever played in the competition (in its modern post PL format)

The nearest equivalent I can think of is Keegan arriving as a player at Newcastle in the 80s

Rooney at Derby

I hope he gets those 20 goals off the bench then. If now isn't the time to be blooding a new striker as our main man (hopefully Nacho or even Daka if need be) then I don't know when will be.

He'll be playing against poorer defences, we will create more chances, its actually a really good scenarior for him personally to be now in a position to bag goals if its to be his last proper season for lcfc

If I was Vardy, I’d probably see out my contract here at Leicester. He’s just moved (I think) further into Lincs and his family are ‘settled’. If his missis ever can be ‘settled’.

On the pitch, nothing I saw of Vardy in those last few games would make me think he couldn’t score plenty of goals in the lower tier.

As long as he a. Gets and stays fit and b. Absolutely wants it, he’ll be fine imo.

I remember a massive hoo hah when Merse signed for Pompey. No doubt they will use Vards name and image at every opportunity.Sorry to say that the youngsters I know think he’s crap now. He’s old news.

Hopefully he retires and joins the coaching team

He hasn't even got any badges?

He isn't going to just cancel his contract is he?

I think it's best for all parties if he gets a nice end of career move, whether that be the MLS or elsewhere.

He's got nothing left to prove to us, our greatest ever player imo.

Age has caught up with him this season though and it can't be nice having your wife slandered by opposition fans every game. Particular when he no longer replies back with a goal.

I don't trust our management to put sentiment aside on footballing matters. As has been seen time and time again, when Iheanacho and Daka spend a lot time on the bench to compensate.

If we want a reset and a serious crack at coming back up next season, it's a decision that probably has to happen. Does depend if there are any offers of course.

Hasn't he got his own academy (iirc)?

JV1 or something.

I have a hunch he'll retire

He was very late in his career to start earning huge wages. He must have lost quite a lot this year with the legal bills for his missus and the investment in the US football team gone and the money he's made needs to last him a lifetime of living at a very high level. He will probably play for as long as he can get paid big money for.

Probably plays out his final year then retires to do the reality circuit. In a couple of years he'll be eating kangaroo anus while Ant and Dec guffaw away in the background.

Imagine Brendan doing a Harry Redknapp as one of the other contestants :nigel:

You can’t replace him per se. His performance when we beat Liverpool at home on the way to winning the league was flawless. Even without his goal from outside the box, that 90 minutes from him was absolutely sensational. That Jamie Vardy is of course, irreplaceable. But…. He is human, he was never going to keep that up forever and for 3-4 years now we’ve known he was going to decline, Father Time dictates it. We should have been thinking about the future but instead, we’ve just assumed he can carry on forever. It’s coming back to hurt us now.

Common sense prevails. Totally agree with you

THIS would be amazing!

He has one final chapter in him - to get us back up. What a wonderful way to go full circle with us that would be. His leaving on the back of promotion next year could really spell the birth of a new era for the club. Fantasy land stuff but would be incredible.

I just don’t want him to leave on a negative, he deserves more than that.

I can’t fathom what I’m going to say. I think we have to move on from Vards. He won’t go anywhere because he’s not going to just terminate his contract.

if we are serious about going up, teams will sit back against us and that’s just not Vardy’s game, that combined with the physicality, extra games and age catching up with him I just can’t see it working.

I wouldn’t begrudge him a move but I would also be devastated to see him go. Maybe he’d be more suited to trying to keep Wednesday up as they may play on the break. That’s the only move that I’d see him have any passion for

Sad to say but he needs to go. Been said on here, but the issue is that he's halting the development and play time of others which is an issue now. Can't justify paying him £100k+ to be a bit part player in the championship. Legend but all good things come to an end.

He is a champion and will go down as one of our best , but I think it’s time for him to retire , but him having another year to go is a problem for the club ,

I'm not wishing to dig you out pal, but where the hell are sheff weds getting 150k a week from to pay his wages?

Some of the ideas on here are cloud cuckoo land: 'release him' 'retire' 'move him on'.... apologies to be so rude bit it shows a complete lack of knowledge of how the business works
