Can see him fancying a chance at adding a few more Prem goals to his total before he retires.

Would a big club have him as an option off the bench for 20 mins? Les Ferdinand like?

3 goals last season. 2  in the supposed Smith resurgence period. If we are going to progress he has got to move on somehow. We can't cling on to the GOAT for much longer hoping that a 36/7 year old is going to bang a tonne of goals for us. All the evidence suggests he won't next season, and a drawn out and long campaign won't be suited to his age.

Even if he had a 50% relegation clause in his contract, its looking like a £70k a week. No point us having the biggest budget in the Championship if we spend it on past fallen heroes.

No, not as a player. I think he’s done now even in the championship unless he can successfully reinvent himself to become a fox in the box type. Would like him to stay on at the club though to add his knowledge and experience on the coaching side  possibly whilst getting  his qualifications. Would need to be on reduced wages though

Has Kels already gone?

No but I'd put money down on it.

No way can we let another player run down their contract and walk on a free when we've been buggering our  finances for years.

Wait, financial incompetence is actually a reason we might keep him. He could be a reason we gain promotion or could be left isolated and be another reason we dig a bigger financial hole in the Championship.

My head says the latter and my heart actually says the latter too. Weird.

I hope so! With the right players around him he will bang in goals for fun.

Mendy, Marc and KDH? Let's hope so

I think he’ll stay. Probably renegotiate his wages, something like 30% cut, then if we get promoted, he gets that 30% back as a ‘bonus’ - and a new deal.

Can’t see many clubs offering a player pushing 40 £150k a week.

Vardy staying is also good for morale. Makes our Championship status seem temporary, and less like a sinking ship. Kinda like how Izzet stayed in 2002.

If he stays, he’s ensuring club legend status, if not already.

All of the above.

Think we need to cut players salaries by at least 50% to 60%....

30% isn't going to help.... we're in dire financial problems by paying players to much.

We were living beyond our means.

Ideally let him go  but if Iheanacho leaves then we will need him.

It's a shït situation but I've no sympathy because this was staring them in the face all season and nobody did anything about it.

We have to move on. Of all the mistakes that we’ve made over the last few years, the failure to find his replacement ranks among the biggest.

He will yes, the GOAT no doubt and I’m sure he is one of a few that truly was hurt with relegation. I feel he will offer a lot in the championship and he will feel he will want to get us back up

What is best case scenario here?

Assuming Vards stays, after accepting a reduced contract (£130-140k p/w reduced by 30% is still £90k - massive for the Championship) wouldn't we still need to bring in a striker to partner him and take the pressure off?  He can't lead the line himself at 36 and play every game. Could he play we someone like Leaburn from Charlton?

Kels is in his last year, so if Vards stays Kels probably has to be sold (to help bring the total wage spend down).  Vards makes his own decision no doubt but would it be better if he moved / retired and we keep Kels?

Daka hasn't acclimatised to English football and we should cut our losses.

I hope he gets those 20 goals off the bench then. If now isn't the time to be blooding a new striker as our main man (hopefully Nacho or even Daka if need be) then I don't know when will be.

Completely agree, we need a successor, time to buy a promising 20 year old from lower leagues, Vardy should have been a super sub and nothing more last season, same applies to championship, he can't play two or 3 games a week anyway.

I think he'll stay.

He's had such a journey with us, I really can't see that his final chapter would be a relegation.

I think (& hope) he stays.

He's probably got in his mind that in an ideal world, he'll stay, help get us promoted, and then move abroad / retire a legend.

We all know he's a club legend regardless, but also no one can pretend that leaving / retiring on a relegation is a bit of a cloud over everything achieved.

On a wider note, it's a massive branding coup for the EFL to have him in the league. He'll be plastered over their promo. Surely the highest profile player to have ever played in the competition (in its modern post PL format)

The nearest equivalent I can think of is Keegan arriving as a player at Newcastle in the 80s
