Regarding expectations, I know the BBC Leicester guys get a lot of stick on here, but I can't recommend yesterday's When You're Smiling podcast enough. The episode titled "The Enzo Era Officially Begins".

You can skip the initial discussion about the press conference, Winks and Coady, I recommend it because of an interview with Spanish journalist Guilliam Balagué, who has followed Man City very closely and knows Enzo personally.

This starts at 15m45s.

Of particular note is a section where Balagué interrupts Owynn to ask his own question:

"You talk about expectations to play like Man City (...), but do you think people are actually expecting the same kind of superiority, style, consistency of delivery that Man City do?"

After Owynn's response that amounted to saying that we hope to see elements of a Pep team emerge in our play, he then says:

"Let me tell you that they are going to be let down, because you do not have £100m players."

The interview continues on as they discuss the slow nature of trying to create a team that can play in that style, how it took Pep time to create a Man City team that preformed how he wanted, how players like Graelish come in and take over a year to adapt and learn this new way of playing, and Enzo's time in Parmo.

I don't see him getting time like this.

I think in the Premier League we'd all be patient as long as results weren't horrendous. But this hasn't been an appointment made with a vision of spending 5 years in the Championship knocking it around the back. After the trauma we all experienced last season, there isn't a chance we are all sitting there watching that in a lower division.

I think Maresca will accept it's about the results to begin with and how he wants to play will come over time. I don't envisage him talking about the right way to play football when we are going to Plymouth away. I'm sure this has all been discussed and he isn't naive enough to think we are in any way a club that can accept years outside the Premier League.

More like hoping the next trophy we win isn't Papa John's trophy. 😂

I'm not even being sarcastic when I say I'd be pleased to win it if we do end up down there again. A trophy is a trophy

Come on Farke really????  lol

Im happy that a coach has two championship promotions out of three attempts under his belt with a squad that was worth around £70m. I'd rather him than a risky coach unknown to the league. Norwich fans absolutely loved him no one can deny how well they played as a unit, he likes possession football and they averaged 60% possession over a season. Many Norwich fans say he is one of the best coaches they have ever had.

So I'm unsure why you think he is a laughable appointment? He has nothing to prove in this league.

It may or may not work but as I said in my first post you can't just buy the championship, look at Luton's squad which was worth £38m in total but they were a total unit and sometimes that's what it takes. Farke brought that togetherness with Norwich. Leeds could spend £100m this summer but it doesn't mean much if they don't play as a team

not got very high expectations, un tried manager and no idea what the squad will be. Easier said than done but they need to set a deadline for when certain players will be allowed to leave

I'll be disappointed with anything less than promotion, especially considering we're bringing in experienced PL players.

But people are underestimating the league a bit. All this xxx "will score 30 goals" "rip the division" etc is never going to happen. It's a competitve division hence there are always lots of teams going for promotion at once.

We were going to buy the League under Sven! If we are not physically ready teams will bully us and we will be mid table at best.

I'm seeing so much talk of Vardy scoring 20+ goals, Daka will get 30+. Barnes will destroy the division etc etc.

We've a manager who has barely ever managed and is pretty much unproven. Who knows how that will turn out.

We will still have a massive player turnover between now and the end of the window (which just like last year threatens to disrupt the early part of the season with an unsettled squad). We don't even know who of our best players will still be here.

And people are treating the Championship as if it's this farmer's league that anybody semi decent can dominate. It's very competitive, 2 games each week all season, most teams have similar budgets, more than half the league can realistically target promotion each season.

Think a lot of people are in for a rude awakening.

Maresco is (potentially) the start of a much needed reset, but this idea that we're going to destroy the league simply because we've been in the PL for 9 years seems a bit wonky to me.

It'll be entertaining to come back to this thread late September, see how reality measures up against expectation.

Imagine losing at home to Cov !! Totally deflating if it occurs.

Not really - they'll come in as the more established, form team - had it been against one of last years  EFL strugglers, it would be worse - but even then, hardly deflating, it's just one game with a whole new cast of characters....

He's proven in Championship. That counts for something.

no it doesn't. different team, different opposition, different times. Past achievement is no guarantee of future success...

But there's no magic formula that will guarantee results - so he is just as well to start playing his way from day one - if it doesn't bring in the wins, you just keep working until it clicks.

Cup games aside - in the league there are only nine weeks where we have two games.

We still are likely to have a significantly bigger budget than most teams - according to https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/championship/einnahmenausgaben/wettbewerb/GB2 - as of today, only 6 other teams have even spent any money, which combined is little more than half of what we spent on winks and coady.

Not saying i think it will be a breeze, it probably won't be - but not because of the issues you suggest....

If the players are half as good as many on here think and that Rodgers really did ruin them.

If the players that do stay play to their potential

If Justin, Ricardo etc stay fit

if we continue to sign quality

if we don’t play turgid possession football and the manager really has learnt from Pep

Then we walk the league - a few ifs but you have to start at least on the optimism bus and say 100 points

Playing well, i agree. Not unproductive passing play that leads to nothing. We've seen more than enough of that.

Until we have attempted to replace the goals lost with the departures of Maddison and probably Barnes it’s hard to make any sort of judgement.

Piroe and Borges, or maybe Chair, would be nice business.

With Doyle and a ball playing keeper we look potentially good at the back, good full back options.

KDH and Winks is a very good midfield at this level, and this is what gives me most confidence, we need to add goals though.

At this stage, and with plenty of business still to do before the season starts, we have an international footballer in almost every position.

I am not sure how many other clubs in the Championship can say the same, with that in mind, the expectation has to be to win the league, or at least gain promotion.

We will have a clearer picture of the squad in the coming weeks and expectations will be adjusted.

I'd like to see some evidence of some more attacking players coming in before I make a judgement. I can't help feeling that selling Iheanacho would be a mistake but if he really wants to leave we have to accept it. We have struggled to recruit wingers in the premiership and we could soon find that Barnes is off. Lets hope we have positive news about Piroe etc rather than this fire sale of our best assets.

Selling Kel is a mistake if we don't have someone else lined up to bring in. If we do though, and if the sale fee and the purchase fee of said player are similar then I think given one will be on a new contract and Kel would likely be off in a year anyway (unless we got promoted and he extended) wouldn't be a bad trade off.
