Some of the comments in here make you seriously question whether fans will have the patience for the rebuild.

The previous season was dreadful and it's going to take time to fix, patience will be key.

Posters have made the comparison but worth reiterating it took time for Guardiola to build the Man City team - I remember some posters calling him 'Fraudiola' and look at how successful he's been.

To be honest, I get a not dissimilar response to asking my son if he thinks tidying his room is a worthwhile exercise….

Cannot wait for this to be done simply so the "ANNOUNCE MAVIDIDI" virgins on twitter can pack it in.

Announce Mavididi

Yes, patience is needed. But by the same token, we can't afford too much patience. No other team has been in this league with the core group of a top 5 squad (realise that many have dipped far below that and we finished were we deserved to last year) and then able to sell 2 players for £40m each. We are basically the PSG of the championship as cringe as that is to say. We're in a unique position in that an immediate return to the PL would probs see us competing for signings with mid table PL teams rather than the other newly promoted side.

I think patience also depends on how big the rebuild we're seeing is. Unfortunately, and this isn't Maresca's fault, that rebuild doesn't seem very widespread so far. Very little off the pitch changes at all levels and whilst the signing of MH is the right type of profile I think we need to see another 3/4 guys under 23 on permanent or at least with the option to buy. Coady and Winks are good signings but they're not the exciting type that give you a feeling of a complete reset. We need to see some long term options otherwise the easy way out has been chosen and Maresca and team will be making their bed.

For my part, I'll definitely be giving Maresca time but that doesn't mean that I'll be backing him if we're out of the automatic promotion picture at the half way stage. There's not really an excuse for failing to get promoted currently but if we end the window with a very young squad, failure to get promotion won't mean he should definitely get sacked, the context behind our performances and style will be important.

Nah of course they won't. There'll probably be boos the first time one of our players dares to pass the ball sideways or backwards instead of launching it down the channel.

Only reason i want this Diabate, Tete and Ghezzal 2.0 to sign is to hear the commentators have to say 'Ndidi - to Mavididi, back to Ndidi - to Marcel-Madivadua who plays it nice and easy to Mavididi and now its back with Ndidi"

He's been nailed on to sign for just about the whole 18 days.

Not doubting him signing, it's how many more medicals and Fabrizio tweets we need to endure in the process.

hope whatever pennys we were pinching are worth it as he’ll have no warm up game now.

I think cov is going to be absolutely horrible and we are in for a reality check

Core group of a top 5 squad?

Maddison, Tielemans, Barnes, Soyuncu, Evans, Fofana, Perez, Kasper and more gone.

Crocked Justin, Ricardo and Ndidi (none ever back to their best).

Vardy now ancient.

I think it’s pushing it to suggest we could field anything like the team finishing 5th now.

...I believe he was talking about the players that we had in the team for that year!!!

I'm in no way worried about this deal. Its going to happen.

I'm more concerned that all other rumours seem to have stopped.

It's pretty hard to get excited about any signing because the bottom line is that if they were that good, they wouldn't come to the Championship - but hey.

In 2014 a young lad named Riyad Mahrez joined a Championship club but he never came to much.

Fair point,  but he was plucked out of nowhere.

Everyone we are linked with or have brought are rejects of other clubs.

Optimistic about this one, pace is so key in the Championship. Need a fcking RW now though!

We've needed one for about 5 years, hopefully this time the club actually bites the bullet and finally signs one!
