Just goes to show what we as a fanbase know. Some of the comments when he was linked to us....

Very good in possession.. 

makes us tick

and we will probably be fine this season should he stay fit..

 

but very average out of possession 

doesnt command the middle of the park when opposition attacks us.

racking up the yellow cards also which are coming from being out of position and being wrong side

Yes there were plenty who absolutely embarrassed themselves in the Winks transfer thread. But there were also a few of us who recognised immediately what an excellent signing it was :thumbup:

Great thing about this forum is that people are always willing to give a new player a fair crack of the whip and never jump to hysterical conclusions early.

Might be rotated for that reason. Ricardo was rested last night, KDH and Ndidi didn’t start. 
 

He can’t play every game! I think Maresca will try Hamza and Ricardo at some point.

no, unfortunately not. Only red cards count in domestic cup comps.

I find it really heartening to see a player with a real point to prove digging in his heels and showing his quality. I think this is also emphasised by the amount of half-arsing, snooze fest players who were happy to see us go down the swanny last season.


Easily my favourite player in years.

To be fair he absolutely did not pull up any trees in the last few years at Spurs and there was very little serious interest in top flight teams taking him on.

 

The benefit to us is that he seems to have been able to reinvent himself a little here and so far its working out very well.

I must admit I wasn’t a fan before the signing as I unfairly assumed he would come with a Spursy level of bottle and wondered what his motive for dropping down was. Happy to admit being wrong and he has been fantastic.

 

Not sure who the obvious stand in is if he gets injured or when he inevitably gets a ban soon now he’s on 4 bookings in 7 games!

Why have I noticed some weird obsession Leeds fans have with him since we signed him. One of their YouTube fans was on TALKSPORT saying it's an awful signing when we got him, and since then I've seen nothing but comparisons to ****ing Ampadu. Seriously. Ampadu. 

 

Hope he sticks one in top bins against them.

Respect the ambition from KDH saying he's working hard to be the best player in the league. 

 

But he's probably not even going to manage to be the best centre mid on his own team. 

 

Winks is a cheat code to be fair. My knee jerk reaction when we were first linked was one of disappointment, it struck me as so underwhelming. But he's just such a vital component of how Enzo wants to play. I'm genuinely terrified of him getting suspended or injured. 

 

The trio of Hermansen, Vestergaard and Winks is so vital to our ability to play out from the back and all three of them are far, far, far too good on the ball for teams at this level to deal with. 

 

What really impresses me the most with Winks is his agility and touch, he can just receive the ball and turn to beat his man so quickly he's a one man press beating machine. 

 

He isn't incredibly showy, he does play a very simple game but christ is it effective.
