For the record - I never wanted Vestergaard. I always thought he was quite rubbish or useful in niche circumstances at best. He had a decent career in Germany, but the signs were already obvious then.
As a person, he seems fine. I actually think he's a better egg than what people particularly on here seem to think, but he is a flawed player who we overpaid in fees and wages by a massive amount. And frankly, I never felt he was good enough for us. Signing him absolutely signaled to the world that we were on the decline and that our transfer dealings were completely off the mark.

But by the same token as the image above insinuates, I think Vestergaard gets far more criticism leveled at him compared to English/British players who in some cases have contributed the square root of nothing (i.e. Bertrand and Souttar) or been arguably worse than Vestergaard (Coady, Ward, Choudhury, Thomas) and cost the club dearly doing so. I suppose that's the crux of it. If you level criticism at Vestergaard for earning too much compared to his quality on the pitch, why single him out when the squad is full of these players?

And for the record, since my nationality is brought into this, Kristiansen can sod off as well.

I've slagged all of those players off (Souttar aside) more than vestergaard - I know you're referring to FT more broadly however.

With Vestergaard though he was the first, most obvious and most expensive departure from our previously successful transfer model. Up until that point experienced PL players were usually cheap e.g Evans, Huth, Albrighton. You could argue Perez was but he at least did have a good season prior to signing him. Vestergaard wasn't rated at Southampton, we put 9 past him, he was immediately dropped, frozen out and finally got back into the side after a shock relegation - before we inexplicably gave him 3 years.

Just as we've compounded our error by extending Thoms and Choudhury's contracts we have with Vestergaard but he cost us £15m and he'll have been on higher wages than the other two.

Just don't give the test to Fatawu - i think we would be shocked with the result.

As much as Ricardo picks the easy option of turning back to stink it out, several times last night he was moaning at Fatawu as he drops deep and doesn't move.  He really is too brain dead to be a top level player he thinks he is.

JV sliding in with the longest legs on the pitch and somehow missing is just embarrassing.  All he had to do was push him off the pitch. We have two of the weakest Danes to land on these shores in the last 1000 years.  The club have been paying Danegeld and the attacks still come.

Preseason should be two weeks playing Nintendo brain trainer.

We agree completely here.

Regarding his fee and wages, that's not on him though. Expecting or thinking he should feel 'ashamed' for it, is just bizarre to me. I rebut by singling out Choudhury & Thomas, who've been here since they were kids and should have a greater emotional bond to the club. If anyone should feel ashamed for fleecing the club, shouldn't it be them?

Or taking it even further... As a fanbase we happily accept Vardy's highest-ever club wages despite him having been on the decline for years. Did he get stick for running down his contract?

Nope, instead he gets called 'loyal' and get's a hero's goodbye (rightfully IMO).  But the economic burden of having him, Maddison, Barnes et al on top 6 wages and relegating us cannot be ignored in this context either.

That's why I choose to push back on those comments. By all means, slate Vestergaard for his performances, ridicule his appearance (childish as it may be) or whatever, but that other stuff is just peak hypocrisy.

Vestergaard has been frozen out and allegedly refused to move whereas Thomas and Choudhury haven't. They're all in the same boat mostly but Vestergaard's career earnings will have eclipsed those pair of twats. It's more shameful for Vestergaard to stick around for monetary gain whilst getting relegated 3 times in 4 years as an experienced international and 15m player. It's bad for others but he's more of a leach.

He could go and play for Esbjerg or whoever and enjoy himself rather than picking up 40k per week in a rotting institution.

Watching their goal back again, i cant believe he didnt shift over towards Langstaff when the pass got played into the box prior to the flick. Then he's far too lumbering to close the space.

I dont think that goal gets scored against any other defender in the league in the same position. Useless.

Actually think he's the poster boy for KP era. Sh1t lazy signing at Rogers' behest. Overpaid dramatically. Ridiculous wages. Three year extension under *no pressure at all* to do so. What has this f****r cost us? We could literally go bust because of him

And yes, we've signed worse players. Strongly suspect Skipp (for example) has potential to go this way

Laughably bad and slow as shit. Just our luck nobody will want him and he'll be stinking the place out next season.

He absolutely berated Stolarczyk for not rushing out or alerting about the oncoming Millwall player in our box. Which also explains why Jakub keeps getting dropped. He's an excellent shot stopper, proved it again tonight. But he's very quiet. Vestergaard has a lot of faults but he was trying. He is going to end up finishing his career with us so might as well get used to him in our starting line up in League 1.

He knew exactly that he was being pressed. Any half decent defender has the pace to deal with that easily. As someone who earns about 7x Jakub I would expect him to conduct himself better. I’ve seen him berate many players over the years yet gets off Scott free for his countless f4ckups.

If he lines up for us first game of the season, it’s a massive failure. Get rid.

Nobody is going to pay him what we do. He has a great time training in a spa every day. He has no incentive to go. He's accomplished everything he will ever accomplish at the top level now it's just securing retirement. We have no choice but to oblige. Or go bankrupt and terminate his contract in the process.

Remember when Jonboy rejected a sizeable offer for him a few seasons ago. Think it was from Fulham. Never understood this signing and never seen him play well for us

Jannik sums up why 99% of professional football clubs don’t offer players over 30, long contracts.

Not only is the lad physically ridiculously slow but he somehow seems to be getting worse physically and mentally.

Awful signing and dread to think how much he has cost during his time here.

One good season under Enzo, five anonymous/turgid other ones!!

I think the difference is that skipp is terrible but appears to actually try.

I can’t hate him because we over paid that’s on us not him. But the over paid dross that don’t try, they’re the ones tha get my back up.

winks, Ayew and vesty all stink the place up because they walk around like they are the best players whilst being absolutely useless.

I thought on the whole, he did okay last night next to Souttar. If anything, Luke Thomas wasn’t as erratic.

I still prefer him to Okoli.

Long term. Surely it’s Nelson / Souttar to build the defence around next season though.

I would guess that if the finances were there quite a number of players would , or soon would  be in discussions to try and agree to cancel contracts as they say “ by mutual consent”

Alas everything it seems to be coming down to is it affordable or will contracted player agree to walk.

Let’s just look at Vestergarrd. Is he planning for Leicester to be his last club? What is his domestic situation? Is he married does he have kids are they happy etc etc etc. Domestic circumstances will play massively into what he will want to do.

Thats before you even start to think about his finances and options.

We know he isn’t a Championship player, his legs have gone ( if he ever had any) his body like all players as they get older particularly those that are lumps are increasingly vulnerable. We have witnessed his demise he will know it better than any of us and the simple fact of the matter is he isn’t going to get a long term contract where even say a two year , no even possibly a three year deal will get what he will in the remaining year at LC.

Lastly you have the clubs options. This is where I really struggle to see what the way forward is .

I think we all would agree that no one’s going to come in offer a fee. Will he agree to go on loan ? Unlikely.

Let’s just suppose he is due £1.5 m for next season. When you add in things like his end of contract payments, the Nic costs etc he is going to cost circa £2 million . We don’t have any current knowledge of the numbers but does any one think Top has £2 million down the back of a sofa? Add to that , and I haven’t done the numbers there is still an element of amortisation to factor in

But he is just one player I am sure that there are four, five six ir more the club would want gone but the simple fact is the money ain’t there.particularly when you factor in that he will have to replaced and that will come at a cost.

Back for one second to Vestergarrd. I don’t think he will go ! He is a cart horse but cart horses , experienced ones at that may well just be what is needed in EFL1.

The trouble is knowing LC they are just as likely , if indeed he is to EFL 1 standard to offer an extension.
