Jacub is a top keeper, should have done better with 1st goal today but both CB were more at fault for it, no chance with 2nd fluke goal.

Looking at the Premier League stats from last season:

Mads played 25.5 games - 3 wins, 6 draws and 16.5 loses  while conceding 56 goals (2.2 goals per game) and winning 15 points (0.59 points per game)

Jacub played 11 games - 3 wins, 1 draw and 7 loses while conceding 18 goals (1.64 goals per game) and winning 10 points (0.91 points per game)

Ward played 1.5 games lost both conceding 6 goals.

Sadly as a keeper, an error is 9/10 going to lead to a goal. Could and should’ve done better with the first. But that is the second time this season he’s cost us a goal early on in an away game. Kicking really needs to improve, especially when it’s dead ball. There’s no excuse to kick it miles out of play even at Sunday league level.

I did think to myself is he feeling the pressure of the new arrival as he looked shaky all game.

Would love for him to really make that shirt his own.

Sadly he isn’t doing so and that’s not to say he’s a bad keeper, he just isn’t really to the standard we want.  We want/need another Kasper.

Mike Stowell through Radio Leicester….that’s why it’s so dodgy

Had a bit of a crap one today, no shying away from it. Not blaming him for either goal though, as I said in the match thread he's not to blame for two Oxford players breaking the backline with zero effort. Yes he could probably have tipped it behind for a corner but it was an awkward shot to deal with and frankly Okoli is taking the piss by watching Phillips let fly, which lets their number six get the run on him to square it. Sunday League ballwatching, watch it back. And the second one is just a wicked deflection off the human goldfish that is Soumare, he'd need to be 1970 Gordon Banks to readjust himself in time for it.

Iffy distribution was what bothered me most today - he was like Kasper at his worst with the amount he pinged out to nobody in particular on the touchline resulting in a lost challenge or a free throw-in for Oxford. And he did not look the most confident playing out from the back either, but that's a wider issue with the backline.

He's still an excellent shot stopper, calls to drop him are premature, though I trust Marti to make the right call if he continues to fail to reach the levels we know he can.

Too early to be getting on his back, he’s a young keeper having his first proper run.

I do think some people convinced themselves Hermansen was the second coming (how’s that going West Ham) and are determined to pick on Jakub at any opportunity to make their point.

He has a strong command of his area, he is a very good shot stopper (nobody is perfect 100% of the time) and his short distribution is absolutely fine and is allowing us to do our thing. Long kicking is suspect but no worse than Kasper who we all loved. I suspect those moaning about his long kicking also think the keeper playing it long means hoooof ball anyway!

On yesterday, I put that on the defence who were poor (but will still have their shirts next week as they are untouchable and exempt from criticism apparently).

First goal, no challenge from Okoli to the header, then standing off and blocking Stolarcryk’s view. Yes you’d hope he could put it further from harms way. Then the defence nowhere to be seen as Oxford follow up. On the follow up, Stolarcryk did what he could be narrowing the angle for the initial Oxford player who got to it (Helik who got the assist).

Second goal, the ball completely changed direction so it was just down to the defending from the corner. It was Fatawu who lost his man I think? Either way to compare that to Ward flopping around on the floor is laughable.

I'm not so sure that you can blame Jakub for the first goal.  He had two options, to push the ball in front of him and back into the six yard box, obviously that would be a goalkeeping error, or push it out to the side which he did.  What else is he supposed to do?

At the game, live, I thought he could have put it out or get more on it to push it wider.

But at the same time our idiotic defenders stand, watch, and react when it is too late.

First goal he can parry it away better, but the second is just unfortunate imo.

He’s won us points this season on his own too it’s worth adding. He’s still very young in both keeper terms and his career experience. We all want this team built around our youth - not sure we can moan when the inevitable inconsistency rears its head from that.

Also as already pointed out, I presume our keeper coaching is still being handled by someone that’s moved up from the academy as we haven’t announced anyone else yet? Perhaps he could benefit from us employing someone with a bit more high level experience.

It's not.

He can and does make costly mistakes, poor kicking, OK a  good shot stopper but doesn't command his box enough on opposition crosses/corners.

I'd take him above Ward every day but I don't think he's a strong enough character to be hounding his defenders when they fvckk up.

I slept on this. It's a terrible and almost offensive comment.

Ward in total (just in money out) cost us about £20million - that before you factor in the the impact he had on the team, dragging as the the bottom of the PL. The 12m fee was meant to be one where he took over the number 1 spot from Kasper.  A completely calamitous incompetent keeper at multiple levels. I literally broke a fight up between 2 leicester fans at the Wolves game where the 2 fans near me were arguing over how sh1t he was. Ward has the ability to destroy defenses, clubs, friendships and dreams.

Jakub has come through the academy and this is the season where he turns from 2nd choice to a starter. He has had some outstanding games, but unsurprisingly has met challenges along the way as he learns on the job. He has just come off the back of 2 clean sheets, one of which (Charlton) was a match winning performance.

Just look at what happened When Ward came back into the side last season, and then what happened when Jakub came in. It was like night and day. Everything fell apart around Ward. That game against Wolves was the most embarrassing performance i have seen from any Goalkeeper.

Yesterday was a difficult game for him. The first goal I feel he should push the ball away further (he still made the save though) but his 2 CB's were ball watching and offered nothing. He made the save and also made himself look big on the rebound. No calamity here - just should have done better and his team mates were poor. The 2nd it only looks like a calamity because of the change of the direction of the ball from Soumare. He tried to reach out. Even if he stands still noone blames him for that.

There is a lot of good to take from Jakubs game right now, as well as some great performances. He is actually comfortable with short passes (ironically - its Okoli that isn't.  Throw Faes in there and Jakub will look a lot better).  He commands the box well and on the whole is very positive dealing with set pieces. And he is a great shot stopper. The long balls thing - yeah not great, but even some top keepers have had to work on this before they find the right balance.

Just needs time; this is his first full season and first time he’s been trusted as number 1. There are going to be mistakes. It’s the kicking from dead ball situations that’s frustrating.

As a goalkeeper the mistakes will always be magnified but overall he is a very good keeper, his distribution improved massively yesterday and his shot stopping is usually top drawer whilst his commanding of his area at set pieces is excellent. His only area of weakness would seem to be low shots down to his right had side and where he parries them.

Not a first team one, no. Guessing Begovic will become that.

We are still lacking a couple of first team coaches.

The more I watch him, the less I rate him, really needs to work on not pushing saves in to danger areas

I tend to agree.

That free kick wasn't in the corner, he should be able to get to it more comfortably and there is no excuse to parry it into the danger zone - should be parried to the side
