Not strengthening the team in January

Not sure about your historical information but for the majority of his career Albrighton has been a right winger. Akgun was signed as a right winger. Both are compromises playing on the left which was my point. We have no specialised LW other than Mavididi. We have lots of right wingers though!

Albrighton was playing on the left when we won the Premiership regardless of what he's done elsewhere. I think that's quite qualified personally compared to other left wingers in the Championship. He'd be plenty good enough there and would certainly protect that left hand side too.

Absolute guarantee you wouldn't of made this thread had we won yesterday. So is a knee jerk reaction.

Completely disagree. We have arguably the strongest squad this league has ever seen. Why sign players for the sake of it?

So why was Maresca so keen on signing Sensi? Just for the sake of it?

Yes, we do have a strong squad but of course it can always be improved - and apparently even Maresca thought so.

Jesus over reaction.

Would a new CM have made Daka, Vesterguard and Vardy not miss chances?

Or stop brain fart mistakes in defence.

This place has been like a kindergarten since we lost.

Nope! But perhaps he could’ve simply scored himself…lol

I was just reading an article on the BBC website about Celtic and thinking that was us a year ago...

"Poor summer transfer window, poor January transfer window, Rodgers asking for quality players publicly and not getting them

Was just thinking about how well Mareaca had done to lose players and build a cohesive squad without all of the whinging that derailed last year and then I see this thread! :S

Ha ha, poor Celtic.

The "Brand Rodgers" protection is starting again.

I posted something with regards to this when the odious, shiny toothed, cretinous little dwarf was unfortunately our so called 'Manager'.

He's creating the process called 'mental bridging' again, linking hindering factors and things out of his control to the worst thing that can happen to him..his eventual sacking, so when it happens the world with the help of the media will report it's not his fault  and  it was the X Y X's factors he reiterated time and time again in every interview he conducts are the problem and not him.

(carbon copy of what happened to us)

Anyhow, Celtic's problem, but the sadist in me thinks it's funny to watch evolve.

I’d agree and I’d certainly play him ahead of say McAteer on the left but I’d still say he’s a compromise selection as a LW based on what we are seeing now and through the vast majority of his career. He played as a LW as his main role under one manager in one season (admittedly a memorable one) in a long career. Albrighton has been used as a right sided player by our current manager and his previous managers (across clubs) except Ranieri.

No one really signed anyone in January. Too expensive - not many players have enough of an impact to make a difference and if you look at Jan last year for us - our PPG actually went down post Jan with signings.

Mcateer has to learn, and what’s better than playing to gather your skill, with

Albrighton behind you.

Better starting and having this championship season behind you, swapping places sometimes with Albrighton, including Mavididi needing this season to expand and show his wares…

Their bench looked better than ours tonight. I don’t think we will but if we somehow manage to not go up then it’ll add to the ever growing list of failed January transfer windows.

We have an embarrassment of riches in some areas, but you can't deny that we're weak in others. Our winger options are increasingly looking a problem. We'd have a real issue if we lost Mavididi or Fatawu to a bad injury. Midfield as well - we lack options to properly rotate. We're putting a lot of mileage in the likes of Winks and KDH because we can't not.

indeed he was , right footed i'm sure? but 1 of them who uses both so well and fb wing back on both sides has made him a great buy plus a good guy and true pro. another year be nice but maybe wants to play all time so could drop a division if we go up no offence meant by that.

I echo this. He may not be as effective as others over 90 minutes but to presume that his experience isn't valuable in seeing out games like Friday is weird.

A more than competent individual who has been underused by Enzo.

Another season we’ve thrown away a commanding position because the board did not act in January. How this lot are still running the club its an absolute joke.

We need change at the top (literally) otherwise history will keep repeating.

If we throw this away it's down to the players and management. Standard of this league is woeful we should never let a lead of this size slip.

No its down to the board not continuing the rebuild or replacing recalled players. They’ve left us short with their incompetence, again.

Our team is more than good enough to get promoted as it is. We’ve spent 75% of the season talking about “how the hell did we get relegated with these players”

Our bench players would get into most of the championship teams. Our squad could maybe do with a bit of balancing, but overall there’s no excuses for not being promoted.

Agreed

But we are playing a certain style and need a certain type of player

It's on the manager if we don't do it as much as it's on the DOF

I mean huge injury list... Needed reinforcement and didn't get it even before Casadei left, as it is we're lighter than we were.

Look at the difference though between the women's team and the men. Women's team look like getting drawn into a relegation battle, get in two good players in Momiki and Takarada, now pushing for top half, we get no-one in and start slipping to the playoffs. The difference? Rudkin doesn't have his slimy little paws on the women's team. We supposedly have high ambitions but we're letting a jumped up youth coach with no skills beyond brown nosing run us into the ground

First time in a while I’ve looked at the table and really got worried. Good thing Leeds didn’t bag all 3 points today but Ipswich did.

its just way too tight below us I really don’t like this at all. Our next game is our only life Line to stay ahead of the pack. MUST WIN!

if Enzo cocks this up I fear the worst.

The problem I have is that its so bleeding obvious our system relies heavily on wingers. Yet we are entirely reliant on Mavi and Fats. As soon as they have a patch(like we are seeing now) we are going to struggle massively. It was glaringly obvious we needed another one in Jan yet once again we failed to strengthen.
