Chelsea Away - Pre-Match Thread

I think we'll bloody their nose, whether we get through is a tall order but we'll give then a right good go.

Hermansen

Cover

Coady

Vestergaard

Hamza

Ndidi

Winks

Yunus

Albrighton

Vardy

Wanya Marcal

Doyle deserves to play but I think he'd go Vestergaard and Coady as opposed to Coady and Nelson which would be a quicker pairing and enable us to use Doyle.

Not sure I’d play Vardy, for such a prolific goal scorer his FA Cup record is pretty crap. I’m prepared to be embarrassed here when someone corrects me, but other than the goal he scored at Brum, I can’t actually remember him scoring an FA Cup goal for us.
I’m sure he has, but in 12 seasons, I’d be amazed if he scored more than a handful of goals in the competition.

Our dip has largely been due to tiredness. Every team in championship history has had this at some point. Think the team will be dictated by who is freshest or can get through one more game before putting their feet up for a week ahead of the final push. My team would be

Mads

Justin

Coady

vestagaard

Doyle

winks

kdh

Ndidi

marcel

fatawu

vardy

What about:

Hermansen. (Our best player. Goal Keepers rarely get injured. Think It's worth the risk to start him in a Q/F)

Justin. (RB is still his best position imo)

Coady. (Faes needs a break. His head is a shed!)

Souttar. (Vestergaard. Any chance to pull him out, we should. He's too important to us - I assume he's on intl' duty?)

Doyle (No other option if JJ plays RB)

Hamza (battle winner in the middle, and cover full backs)

Ndidi. (battle winner in middle. Give him 60 - 70mins at least)

KDH (only other option is Akgun - not sure he is fit for this one? Didn't he take a knock?)

Albrighton (Fatawu is too important for the promotion push. Protect him, as with Winks)

Iheanacho (our FA Cup specialist)

Mavididi (Will get his rest during the international break)

Genuinely think that team could win. Need to win the game in the middle of the park. Their centre mids can certainly be got at.

Last time we rested the whole first team, against Bournemouth, they followed up with that QPR debacle of a performance.

Ah, but maybe it would have been even worse if they hadn't been rested.

Also that was barely a rest missing a mid week game.  They’ve got a chance here for a proper rest. A short holiday basically which could have a massive positive impact for them that are looking very flat just now.

Assume we'll rotate and I assume Poch will go strong in effort to try and help save a poor looking season.

Given Enzo's lack of trust in the squad players, you imagine he'd be against playing too many key players in this one. I'm not sure Chelsea will allow us to outwork them like we did with Bournemouth.

Should be a decent watch for the neutral I'd have thought.

Gonna go for something mad like 6-3 Chelsea lol

We must give this our best shot, as others pointed out we have best part of two weeks to recover. Not only that, unless I'm mistaken, one of the semi finalists will be wolves or cov, so if we were to win Sunday there is as much chance as not its one of them we'll face to get to the final.

Scored the winner at home vs Sheffield Utd I recall. Scored in the quarter finals vs Chelsea to take it to extra time under Puel but for a player of his record over the years here he's never been that dominant in cups, I agree. I think it's possible because the league was always the priority and he was always first choice and seldom rested until such games.

He's a streaky player though and at this stage of his career we have to exert every ounce from him when he is in such form as it's quite possible this break for internationals could stunt his rhythm.

We lost Ricky after that game

In fairness, Ricky's fitness record is so bad he's one that should have been rested for Bournemouth. Bringing him on as a Sub on a cold night was probably not the best thing to do?

It won us the game though. We had no one else who could effectively play the attack midfielder role.

He still has numerous axes to grind. Btw your name still sends shivers down my spine almost 50 years on. Leatherhead scare the life out of me that day.

Ironically, Nacho has a superb FA cup record.

Seem to remember Yunus played well there in that game. Just couldn’t finish. A bit like Luis Diaz in the Liverscum game yesterday.

Saying that I wouldn’t start him (Yunus) in there Sunday.

I would play Yunus in the KDH role and play him along side Ndidi.

Think the team for this game will be a fine balance between full strength and rotation. No reason we can't put out a strong team with 12 days until Bristol City away but definitely with one eye on the fact some players will likely be involved in international games over the break (Ndidi, Iheanacho, Vestergaard, Faes, Souttar etc...)

Stolarczyk (Pep style I can't see Maresca changing his cup keeper)

Justin

Vestergaard

Coady

Doyle

Choudhury

Winks

KDH

Albrighton

Daka

Mavididi

The ones I'm unsure of are Winks, Daka and Mavididi. Could be replaced with Yunus (not like for like!), Cannon and Marcal too...

Either way I doubt we will see Hermansen, Ndidi and Faes start.

Will be very surprised if Nelson doesn’t play

Needs to be in the shop window to help out with potential future FFP issues and every penny gained is pure profit

If he can’t mark that donkey Nicholas Jackson out of the game then so be it

Given Iheanachos record in this competition i would imagine he'll either start or feature from the bench.

If we go there and play without fear i genuinely believe that with 6000+ fans backing the lads we could get a shock result.

All depends on if Chelsea turn up aswell.
