Saxondale Posted 12 June 2024 Posted 12 June 2024 Nobody knows who our next manager is going to be, because we always keep negotiations under wraps. The bookies haven't had a clue for the last several appointments. There's a good chance that the journalists who claim we've approached or spoken to X or Y manager are absolutely correct, but this may well be gauging candidates' interest. There are certain managers who will obviously be on our radar, and we have already guessed those names, because they're as obvious to the club's board as they are to us. It would be highly surprising if we didn't make contact with the likes of Potter, Cooper, even Sarri to see whether there is any potential interest before wasting time drawing up a shortlist of uninterested candidates. I expect we've made contact with each of these names, as well as several that none of us have thought of. 1

When a journalist is told by a contact that we've spoken to a particular manager, it's in his/her interests to over-egg it in order to make it a story. An article which said, "Leicester have had an introductory conversation with Cooper to gauge his interest but there are 7-8 other candidates" is not particularly interesting. So instead we get, "Leicester focusing attention on Cooper" or similar. 1
Popular Post Golden Fox Posted 12 June 2024 Popular Post Posted 12 June 2024 As frustrating as this is, need to remember the timetable. A lot of the football calendar and contracts run to the end of June. Our players are released at the end of June & its been mentioned on here that Enzo is still contracted until the end of June. Players usually report back to clubs right at the end of June or start of July. We are not alone in not having a manager on 12th June. Brighton haven't got a manager, Man Utd only confirmed theirs yesterday, and last year, Maresca was appointed 16th June & Farke at Leeds was 4th July. We look at this as football fans looking at what we know of manager's records from their previous clubs and base our decisions purely on that and think it should be relatively easy to decide based on that. But there is far more to it: particularly given what we have seen with Enzo: Potter is my preference - and I think that having jumped to a big money club once and got burnt, he's far more likely to commit long term to a club of our size. I like the idea of Corberan, but if he leaves West Brom for us, then it would show me that he is more keen on going up the ladder than building at a club and he would do the same to us when another big club come calling - but you can only gauge that by asking questions directly. I would imagine the club will have a process and a timetable: they will have worked through a process of obtaining CVs, headhunting some candidates - then reviewing CVs, having initial interviews (you would hope the club would have talked to at least 7 or 8 potential candidates) - whittling down to 2 or 3 candidates and having 2nd or 3rd interviews, with a timetable of 2-3 weeks for all this to take place. The media or fans may get a sniff of one of these interviews taking place and jump to conclusions, but its just guessing what stage they would be at. I'd rather the club take their time and make the right appointment, and to my mind we are still in the right timetable for them to be doing so. I'd have been more worried if we had made a knee-jerk announcement within a couple of days. So the time to worry for me will be if we get to the end of June without a manager, but looking from the outside, we are probably where we should be at this point in the process if it being run right with it likely down to 2 or 3 and feeling like discussions are being held with a preferred candidate (which recent posts seem to suggest is Potter). Keep the faith people! (Sorry - too much rational thought for this thread) 9

I suppose he's agreed depending on a set of demands that we have to mull over. Probably involved transfers (yulp!) and playing staff he wants to bring in. Probably needs to make sure there is a talking sorting hat at seagrave etc.

StriderHiryu Posted 12 June 2024 Posted 12 June 2024 Last season we interviewed McKenna, Maresca and Martin before appointing Maresca, so there's probably a similar process this time round with Potter, Cooper and Corberan the final candidates. We were also sounding out Scott Parker who was alleged to have been seen at the training ground, but how much truth there is in that I don't know. I suspect Parker and Martin were at least spoken to through contacts. Enzo was appointed on the 16th last year, and with the Euros starting on the 18th, I'd be surprised if we haven't got someone lined up by then.
les-tah Posted 12 June 2024 Posted 12 June 2024 Potter has obviously heard Southgate is getting 4 more years
Foxes96 Posted 12 June 2024 Posted 12 June 2024 I’m actually coming round to the idea of Potter, if he wants the job. And that’s a big if. Think if he wants to get back into club management, having been burnt by a big club already I think we would probably be an interesting project for him. I think a year or more break, and having seen what Enzo has already implemented he would probably look to set us up in a similar fashion. The concern with Potter is his sides have always struggled to score goals. Whether that’s down to the strikers or set up remains to be seen. But would hope that with the likes of Vardy and hopefully we would sign a new striker as well if we can shift Patson we could be an exciting prospect 2
