My experience is that our school certainly pushed more kids towards uni that it should've, but suggesting you've basically got to be a doctor or a lawyer for it to be worth it are talking out their backside. 

 

Interestingly, I was speaking to a former tutor/head of school on Friday and he was saying that their most lucrative income stream is selling their curriculum to foreign unis who teach it abroad under a 'partnership' and there is a UK uni 'campus' in China, Malaysia etc

All good advice.

 

The future for architecture and engineering will be high level apprenticeships though, they are really good ways to get into the industry.

 

I suspect we will see more careers going this way, eg nursing, graphic design, probably accountancy and many others mentioned in this thread.

I would advise her to do something quantitative, but not accountancy. If she wants to be an accountant she could easily get a job at a Big 4 auditor with a good quality quantitative degree from a Russell Group uni.

 

EDIT: Also, if she is close to achieving AAA she should speak to her teachers about why they aren't predicting that. I went to a school where they'd slightly inflate your predictions to get you the best offer possible which subsequently acted as a huge incentive to do well. 

Thanks for the advice mate. I’ve heard similar about not doing accounting as a degree.
I think shes speaking to her teachers all the time about her predicted grades - she’s obsessed by it. If I was her teacher it would do my nut in but I can’t fault her for being keen and wanting to do well.

She was advised to go down the early entry route and I think Liverpool is her preference if LSE doesn’t come off.

P.S. she showed me a job she fancies last night. Forensic accountant in NYC paying $140k lol

Its good to dream I suppose

Given rent prices in NYC, she may still have to commute for that one. :D

 

But seriously, more power to her elbow. I know there's plenty of physics grads who decided to move sideways into a different and more personally profitable (if occasionally much less ethical, forensic accounting aside) form of number crunching.

That's not a dream!!!!! it's an entirely normal goal. Once she smashes a 1st class degree from LSE, she'll be overrun with consulting offers. I would strongly advise you pick up a frivolous and very expensive hobby and ask her to entirely fund it. Keeps these kids honest

gallant has always wanted to go on a less extreme, path than BN - he’s also a potential challenger for PM.  Strong lack of trust 

 

is this in expectation of a trump win or because a Harris presidency will lean on BN harder than Biden?

He’s hired hardliner Israel Katz as his replacement. A man who said the Poles “suckle antisemitism from their mother’s breast”. Against the two state solution. Very much in favour of settlements. In favour of targeted assassinations of the BDS. Another one of those hard right wingers in a position of authority. 
 

Gallant was sacked for saying the military assault has gone too far and should open up negotiations for release of the hostages. The assault on Gaza stopped being about the hostages about 12 months ago.

BN has had at least two compromising leaks in the last couple of weeks around hostages and hamas all coming from his office. Needs to redirect the press elsewhere.

Probably good for Gallant’s career though. Someone will need to takeover once BN is in jail.

All  relevant points 

 

I'm wondering about this 10 week period ahead of an inauguration - who is in charge in the whitehouse ?  It’s known as the ‘lame duck period’.   There have been reports that trump has told BN to have ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon in place by the time he is president. And to have dealt with Iran.  


If trump wins will Netenyahu just do as he pleases over the next 11 weeks with no US govt influence to be a little more circumspect ?   
 

if Harris wins then Netenyahu will feel cornered because the heat is coming onto him if he has to deal with a Harris administration.
