Just seen the Dortmund - Celtic score - to think that lot were getting carried away after their first win in the UCL Group Stages in *checks notes*  7 years. Against a team that's Europa League standard at best, and only there because of the stupid new format and expansion to 36 teams.

As for the format itself, tonight is further proof that it is diluting the prestige of the competition. With three tiers of competition now running simultaneously, there's absolutely no need for 36 teams to be playing in the supposed elite-level competition.

Rodgers' acolytes will point to results like this as being proof he can't compete or be judged but he has had some shocking results in Europe for over a decade against clubs nowhere near the elite.

 

He is a poor European coach.

Yes. It's making me feel a bit sick with a combination of jealousy and nostalgia. It's only just over a week ago we were holding our own (just) at Walsall. What the **** has happened to us? (the answer is further up this page)

I thought about it a lot of times and I'm not even mad. In a different era we might have been able to build a dynasty or at least stay on top 4 by keeping all our star players. This is not sustainable in modern football for various reasons (players, location, financial rules etc, the list is long).

Not a fan of the new format yet but proper jealous that the likes of Villa now get to play a variety of teams every other week across Europe and not stuck with the 3 teams played home and away.

 

Would have bloody loved Bayern at home at the KP

Afaik yellow cards can be issued on dead balls/situations. It was a yellow card. This Romanian ref is atrocious and known for his inability to control games. Not only the new format is a joke, officiating is also subpar. They're trying their best to kill football for the masses. It will become a sport for YouTubers, Instagramers, OnlyFans.

Very true. And we probably all knew that at the time which is why we put our lives on hold to enjoy every moment of it. Well I did at least! And it was worth it!
