Surely he was signed because he was expected to be better than what we have wasn't he? Otherwise what's the point? I guess if you look at recent history you could point to Édouard... But there's no way that can happen again. Surely. Please .
OntarioFox Posted 15 September 2025 Posted 15 September 2025 (edited) We've only played one game so far, one in which the tactical plan no doubt changed because of Ramsey being a hot-headed idiot. Daka made sense as we needed to set up deeper and, as crap as he is, he's a better offensive option on the break. Carranza will play some role against C*ventry. Relax. I’ve lost count of the amount of times he’s stopped an attack because he’s more concerned about hitting the deck. Which is ironic given how appalling this squad is at delivering set pieces. We never seem to consider purchasing players who are set piece specialists. 2

I'm not saying we didn't. that's the point of signing Carranza. You'd hope he would be the stater, too frequently we've signed squad depth rather than creating squad depth by signing better players for the first team, but fundamentally the point of signing Carranza is to have depth in the striker position 1

Cannon was never going to make it here, and his stats for Sheff United back that up completely. Ayew is crap but Cannon's return in that side last season would have been even more pitiful. oxford blue Posted 19 September 2025 Posted 19 September 2025 Jordan Ayew Signs 2 year deal - Official Noticing there were new posts, I had assumed these may be about Jordan Ayew. I find it difficult to see how comments about Ramsey and Cannon - perfectly valid points, but wrong thread? Re JA: I was critical of initial signing, but I think we have had value for money. Ok, he was unlikely to set PL alight even if he was in a half decent team but difficult to suggest he never gave his best. This season, one of our best performers and, for me, best City player last Saturday: always a threat to Oxford
OntarioFox Posted 19 September 2025 Posted 19 September 2025 (edited) Jesus Christ, I think it was a stupid tackle to make that put us on the back foot for the rest of the game lads, thinking he's an idiot for that doesn't mean I hate the fella, cool down Edited 19 September 2025 by OntarioFox
Gav_LCFC14 Posted 20 September 2025 Posted 20 September 2025 No questioning his effort or work rate. But the man just doesn't have the legs to be leading our line. Drops way to deep and leaves up front open.

Not comparing anyone to Vardy ability wise, but tactically wise, Vardy was always the furthest forward player, always in the box waiting to pounce and always an out ball option and giving defenders something to think about. Ayew does none of this and drops too deep/wide meaning when the wingers are looking for a cross, there is nobody in the box. He's not got the pace to get in behind so against teams like cov, that won't park the bus, he offers nothing. 3
HybridFox Posted 20 September 2025 Posted 20 September 2025 We can't score on the break when he doesn't hold his position as a 9! Keeps dropping back and we have no output 1
Unabomber Posted 20 September 2025 Posted 20 September 2025 Absolutely honking today was like playing with 10 men 1 1
Dahnsouff Posted 20 September 2025 Posted 20 September 2025 Think people refuse to see what he brings and cannot get past the weird belief that he is here to score goals only He does link play, he works hard, and maybe that is his job. Do like the new word @StriderHiryu - Ayew is a prime suffer of this “over hate” 3

Play him as a support striker with someone who will do that job

Seriously, we need to get past this 9’s score goals, 10’s are playmakers, strict perception of what each number does, as it’s just not true anymore. It’s a space on the pitch, these numbers seem more like a position on the pitch these these days. That’s really not true though is it? Haaland and Isak the top two “9’s” in the PL are there solely for goals. Yet when you think of the best “10’s” they offer a great foil for the strikers and play between the lines. Us not having a striker who’s going to get us 15+ goals is going to be the difference between this season and the Enzo one.
