It is worth stating that players under the age of 18 can only sign contracts for a maximum of 3 years and the earliest he can sign is his 17th birthday and even if he's obligated to sign a professional contract at the end of his scholarship (which surely can't be legal?) there'd be nothing to stop him refusing to sign for anything more than a year and leaving on a free at the end of it.

All this really does is give us breathing room to continue to develop him until he's 17 and maybe tie him up for a short while after that.

If he turns out to be an absolute super-star he could still end up getting poached for criminally little money and in the best case scenario for us (a full three year contract after he turns 17) he'd still be free of any obligations to us by 20.

Is it not limited to 2 years at 17 and then moves to 3 years at 18? (This is me applying old FM knowledge)

Either way, if we lock him down and he performs as well as we all hope. Clubs aren't going to risk waiting for him to be available on tribunal, they'll want to get bids in early to lock him down.

You've got to remember that legalities in football are completely different. Sounds like he has signed 2 contracts; 1 that will kick into gear when he is 16 and covers his scholarship, then another that will be enforced when he turns 17. You would assume that the latter is  minimum of 2 years (or 3 if that's allowed) with some kind of release clause in there. So that still gives us 2 years from 17 at which point he'll have had a hopefully successful full season in the championship so you'd imagine we'd get into the £20m range at that point (which would be way under his value assuming the best case scenario in terms of his performances).

The point is that his pro contract is considered legally binding and would assume it required some element of parental consent. Just like any contract signed in advance of the commencement, you can break it but at great personal cost. Given this is football, if Monga did so and the idea was that the buying club pays him to cover the cost of breaking the contract, that would immediately be flagged (even as corrupt as football is) and would likely mean that we'd get way beyond his contract value from him breaking the contract. You don't have the same freedom of movement in professional sport as a normal job.

Long and short of it is, that assuming he does well, we are absolutely in a position to multiply whatever we'd get from a tribunal.

I’m so convinced he’s gonna have an unreal season for us, Lamine Yamal eat your heart out.

He best do, at the moment he’s literally the only hope we’ve got going into what is going to be an extremely miserable season!

We got depth and I can't wait to see them

We’re also owned by footballs answer to the chuckle brothers….. and won’t have a new manager in post if at all until mid July……

This.

in truth the manager decision should just be someone that trusts young wingers to play with freedom.

I'm a weirdo that likes defenders, so I am excited to see Ben Nelson next season also.

I never get excited over small quick wingers. It's a limited shelf life. Unless Kante started out as a winger. As that worked fairly well

Just started laughing at superimposing Top and Rudkin on to the Chuckle Brothers carrying a ladder… can anyone make it happen?

Isn't Monga already about 5ft 10?

I swear I remember Kante playing on the wing in maybe a league cup game when he first signed. Might have been Bury

Genuine question; have you watched him play? He is of course a highly technical player but he's got a decent turn of pace, though really it's his strength and physicality that has really impressed me. Tuanzebe (who is a physical specimen) had to resort to fouling him as he couldn't shrug him off the ball.

Not expecting him to start every game and get 20+ goal contributions, but would be utterly amazed if he doesn't have an important role to play next year. He's that good. How it translates into end product will be the real test.

I think I saw every minute of him in the prem games. i dont think he is weak or slow by any means. more that the super successful 16 year olds ive seen have been extreme outliers in terms of pace (walcott) strength (rooney) or ability (bellingham, rooney).

I would say fans will have an even bigger impact. They're really young, some still legally children, need to allow them the freedom to make mistakes too.

Reason I still think we end up near the top this year, think everyone on that list starts for a lot of playoff chasing teams, we can be bang average around those and we will still compete. Look at Sheffield United last season, genuinely crap except for 3/4 (Cooper, Ahmedodzic, Hamer, Burrows)

Bournemouth away he came on and played on the wing.

Both games he played on the wing. Was Stoke away we moved him to a central role I believe?

I suppose as always it will depend on who our manager is and whether he wants to play to the strengths of our players or, whether he wants to be Pep light and bang on about how HE thinks the game should be played and his 'philosophy' 🥱😴.

Depending on who leaves (hopefully about half of them, with the exception of El Khannouss, Nelson, Fatawu and perhaps a couple of others), if there isn't a huge points deduction, we'd stand a very good chance of being in or around the playoffs I think. All dependant on manager and discipline and attitude.
