Maya Jama did very well on Save Our Summer. I’d probably watch the show if she presented.

Kate Scott would rake in millions of viewers if she got the gig. Already works with Micah Richards on CBS Champions League games too

I haven't watched MOTD in several years, and I suspect I'm not alone. It has been rendered almost completely obsolete by YouTube highlights. The evidence can be seen by the steady decline in viewing figures to approximately 3m - which is about on par with Gogglebox and Alan Carr's Picture Quiz.

I almost mentioned this earlier. She's made a point about how that show only works because they have freedom to do and say as they please.... that doesn't exist at the BBC.

Splits her time between UK and US too which would mean a lot of stand in presenters.

I think in 2029 when someone like Amazon or Netflix get the highlights package (i think they'll be made to show it free to air but use it as a hook to get subscribers), she'd be perfect.

Personally I find no fun in watching YouTube highlights, they're boring. MOTD is an institution. It would be a sad day if it died.

I stopped watching MOTD because it was boring. There's only so many times you can listen to Alan Shearer say "he did magnificent" before you lose interest.

Got to be a link between underdevelopment the part of the brain responsible for spelling, grammar and language comprehension, and overstimulation of the part of the brain responsible for hating Lineker.

Got to be.

Kelly Cates would do a decent job. Always liked her Sunday night 5-Live show with Ian Wright.

She earns millions at Sky so doubt BBC will match that. She only does bbc show for them part time.

I refuse to subscribe to Sky so have no idea who presents on that platform.

He did a great for MOTD in picking it up after Des. I’ll miss the International Tournament coverage more though.

However in the modern age, I’m not really sure MOTD itself has a place anymore. It was once the go to place to see highlights, however I don’t need to wait until the evening now.

With social media and even Sky, the highlights are available much sooner. I’ve not watched the program itself for years.

He’s always been massive advocate for Leicester. I don’t understand how people don’t get that.

Some of his political opinions don’t align with mine, but then again 50% of the country don’t. I don’t dislike them or wish them ill. Such is life.

TBF if we were winning games and playing good footy I'd probably watch MOTD but not right now.

Look at the morons online, almost hoping it’s Alex Scott just so they can be furious at something.

I think she's a better analyst than presenter. When I've seen her present she seems to struggle a bit.

I'm the same. I turned over after the news on Saturday night so that I didn't catch any of it.

I agree with you mostly but I do think Chappers is good at taking a backseat and asking the footballers pointed questions about the game/decision making

Lineker does that too even though he was a class above many of those he talks to in the MOTD studio. The difference is he can offer an opinion on say Harry Kane and it’s actually constructive and interesting even though it annoyed the current England striker. Lineker also often provides some sanity when he’s got say Keown or Murphy alongside him, lesser players with big opinions. Chappers can’t possibly provide that because he’s effectively one of us. He's not been there even if his opinion is valid. I actually quite like Prutton on Sky’s Championship because he’s a slick presenter and was a pro footballer so he’s been there and done that. Less so Jenas when he wasn’t in disgrace as he’s just not at the same level presenting-wise.

Wouldn’t bother me who it is.

Chapman is the obvious front runner and is good, Alex Scott or Gabby Logan would also be good despite what other people want you all to believe.

Prutton is superb, always amazes me how natural at it he's been from the start.

Des Lynam was brilliant though, and he never played the game professionally.

There are so many people that front football shows having never played the game that are good at what they do. Tends to be more women than men you see nowadays (K Scott, Logan, Woods, Cates) but that’s no issue to me.

Chapman would be my choice. Already good on Motd 2. Gabby Logan very professional too. Alex Scott OK as analyst but for me is not a great presenter. Unlike other opinions I don't think we need an ex player. A journalist background brings other expertise. The ex players the presenter chats to can bring the other elements.

I've only watched it a handful of times in the past few years, but then that's because I only watch it when we've won lol

He was brilliant in his time as a presenter but not able to involve himself in the conversation. Lineker’s strength is he was a world class striker in the men’s game who also has become a very slick presenter. The other names you mention don’t have that gravitas so will be a downgrade irrespective of their presenting ability. If we are being honest, what many of them do have is the power of not being a white middle aged man and that is ultimately a strength in a area of tv entertainment that is trying to hit certain targets and attract new audiences.

I don't think the Beeb would put Alex Scott on the main MoTD. Sadly think they would see it as risky, especially if press reports are to be believed that Football Focus is struggling and likely to be axed.

I could see her taking on MoTD2 mind.

I think a sensible thing, if they're looking to shake things up a bit and keep everyone happy....

MOTD - Chappers

MOTD2 - Alex Scott and expand the show to include WSL saying as majority of games are on a Sunday.
