I won't make a case for Kent, despite living here.

Some lovely coastal areas such as Broadstairs and great historical areas like as Canterbury and Rochester, but it has sadly become very overpopulated for the size of the towns and infrastructural, which means traffic is often horrendous. Lots of quite deprived or soul-less towns as well like Ashford, Sittingbourne, Gillingham and Stood. It is the county of medium-sized towns with no real focal point.

Suppose I'd better say Buckinghamshire seeing as I've now lived here over 20 years.

Britain's most filmed county I'll have you know.

Bond, Bridget Jones, Downton Abbey, The Queen, Harry Potter, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Vicar of Dibley, Inspector Morse, and many more all filmed here.

Loads of estates, National Trust places, forests, the Chiltern hills etc, etc.

(Then HS2 came along and fvcked it all up )

Cumbria has to be the winner here right?

Loads of counties have stunning natural beauty for various reasons but the lakes are another level.

Somerset/Gloucestershire. You've got a good city in Bristol on your doorstep, lots of nice towns (Bath, Frome, Wells, Cheltenham etc), nice countryside nearby (Cotswolds/Mendip Hills), and you can holiday in Devon and Cornwall easily.

North Yorkshire too for similar reasons with Leeds not far away and the likes of York, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Yarm etc, and also great countryside and the coast.

Whilst Leicestershire is objectively not the best county, it's great being in the middle of the country and being able to visit everywhere without it being too much of a slog. If I lived in North Yorkshire it would be a bastard getting down to Devon, likewise Somerset with York. Last weekend I was in Broadway in the Cotswolds in an hour and a half, this weekend I'm hoping to be in the Peak District in a similar time.

Bedfordshire has Luton, therefore it’s a shithole

Berkshire - Nowhere that’s home to Slough is anything other than a shithole

Buckinghamshire - Milton Keynes can fvck off

Cambridgeshire - poncy bast@rds

Cheshire - Chris Chadford still owes me £65 from 1989, his entire county can fvck off

Cornwall - full of caravanning tourist cvnts

Cumberland - Carlisle is crap and the Lakes are owned by tosspot Radio presenters

Derbyshire - the hills are ruined by the rest of it

Devon - great if you love dried up octogenarian pussy, otherwise: make some proper fvcking lanes, Devon

Dorset - you drive through it to get somewhere, there’s a reason no one stays

Durham - northern Tory twats

Essex - thick southern Tory twats

Gloucestershire - Romans, therefore in with a shout of being decent

Hampshire - was nice, now a soulless hellhole

Herefordshire - fantastic if you love incest

Hertfordshire - new town shithole

Huntingdonshire - central Tory twats

Kent - cvnts

Lancashire - dark satanic shithole

Leicestershire - shithole

Lincolnshire - three fingers, two braincells, built on one hill shithole

Middlesex - this entire county can cock off. Sounds like it’s a proper place, but it isn’t, it’s London. London can fvck off because it’s shite

Norfolk - the best thing is it’s impossible to get to so next to no one bothers; let the arseholes belong to Netherlands

Northamptonshire - clearly the best county

Northumberland - clearly the second best county

Nottinghamshire - fvck off

Oxfordshire - overpriced Tory bollocks

Rutland - twee Tory bollocks

Shropshire - racist cvnts ina racist county being racist, willy pullers

Somerset - cider and cheddar, therefore third best county

Staffordshire - even more racist than Shropshire, home to that BNP cvnt

Suffolk - let it go Suffolk, no one cares

Surrey - fvck you, Surrey, you’re just London pretending to be something else too

Sussex - pathetic resistance to French invaders therefore should be wiped out

Warwickshire - oh, aren’t you fancy…Coventry. Piss off

Westmorland - acceptable, but only if you emptied it of people and Kendal fvcking mint cake

Wiltshire - stone circles completely cancelled out by Swindon

Worcestershire - stupid accents, it’s Birmingham in disguise

Yorkshire - fvck off

Cumberland? Cumberland?!!?!

It's not 1543 you know!

Northamptonshire contains Corby, so think again.

Corby is Scottish. It doesn’t form part of Northants.

And time, that is relative.

Finally: 3 pages in and a mention of Cambridgeshire.

Interesting analysis, but I've had to go to Peterborough twice in the last couple of weeks, and there are a few folk there that might dispute your conclusion.

For those grumbling about house prices, you might need to reconsider looking at the list by borough on https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/uk-house-price-index-for-june-2023/uk-house-price-index-england-june-2023 - as Cambridgeshire is the first place you hit outside of Greater London and Surrey...

Makes you think how many nice areas we do actually have in this country.

It's easy to forget that being on a mainly Leicester/Leicestershire forum. There's too much focus on the bad stuff.

Apart from the main city of Gloucester, which is a depressing dump.  Cheltenham on the other hand………..

Yeah I went in May to the cathedral and was surprised how bad the town was. Didn't think that much of Cheltenham either, though the countryside was gorgeous.
