King Power Out

I had the most infuriating conversation with a “fan” in the pub yesterday.

My mate and I were discussing our downfall and he couldn’t help himself but to but in.

His opinions were absolutely wild, I thought he was taking the piss at first, but when he started to get nasty, (and subsequently asked to leave by the landlord) proves he wasn’t.

He was so brainwashed by the KPFC brand, it was like we didn’t exist before KP…. He couldn’t present a genuine argument, other than, we were apparently nothing before king power, we are all deluded and self entitled rats apparently for being against KP… he pretty much just kept saying we were rats, and that was about all he could say.

But he could not even see the problems, he thought nothing was wrong, and this was all normal bar what he said were “a couple” of mistakes by top. He thinks it’s completely acceptable for us to just become a shrine to Vichai, and he was happy for the club to lose its identity to KPFC, as again, he just kept saying we were nothing before them…..

The bloke was unbelievably thick, I just can’t understand why there are still fans around like this? Who just can’t see the problems…….. and refuse to accept Top and KP have done anything wrong.

They really are few and far between now. I'm ranting at anyone who'll listen and haven't come across anyone who disagrees with me. This includes a few who were kpfc and anti ufs, they are now kp out.

Am I misremembering a whisper a while back that Rudkin offered his resignation, but was then persuaded to stay? I'm talking a few years ago. I might be well off there.

It’s the first person I’ve come across bar the chap who sits in front of me, who was so in favour of KP. Luckily, it seems like they’re starting to while down. I think if they get this summer wrong, then they may finally turn.

I think so. This joke of a restructuring has turned many.

This whole thing of "we wouldn't have won the title or the FA cup without KP", although true, really grates now.

I think the quote "we promote" was misheard and was actually "we plummet"

Good to see they've been so quick with a retained list. Not like lots of clubs did it the day after their last game...

I know I am asking for too much but, thi summer needs to be better in terms of communication.

  • Quickly let us know the fate of GR, as he's out of contract now, so unless he's under consideration to be the permanent manager say he's leaving. Its a different situation to RVN last year
  • Do the release list in terms of players.
  • Say that they are now in the process of interviewing managers, even if that does include GR
  • Acknowledge things are not right and just be honest and open with everyone.

I don't think any of the above will happen really, on at least not in a timely manner.

Lots of other things but the manager, and release list need to be sorted ASAP, the longer it goes on, the more likely I think we are to the Charlie Methven worst case scenario , than his best case scenario.

I think we have to reappraise the European campaigns of the later King Power years as well, and particularly stop touting making a 'European semi-final' as some kind of achievement.

Looks like we're going to be the only English club to have gone into the Conference League and not won it. Forest have gotten into the semis of the Europa League from 17th in the league and we couldn't get past the first knockout round.

To have gone in with the teams we did and only have a Conference League semi to show for it is a failure. Europe's been a piece of piss for everyone else.

European semi-final is a good way of charting the decline rather than a particular achievement.

But actually, not having teams knocked out of the CL/EL means you can't really compare the two.

The other semi-finalists in our year were Roma, Marseille and Feyenoord.

Palace's other semi-finalists are Strasbourg, Rayo Vallecano and Shakhtar Donetsk.

They are probably concocting some elaborate court case, because they got 6 point taken off them and because the naively didn't think we'd get relegated even if we had the points taken off they didn't take too much action at the time.

Nothing would surprise me and because of that ignore the situation we are in.

As Charlie Methven said on BSLB podcast, you can be thankful for the success we have achieved, but also be concerned with the downfall of the club and want clear change.

Yes but this involves nuanced thinking which is beyond many of the partisan KPFC lot.

If you're a well adjusted adult yes, but that's not the case for everyone that happens to follow LCFC as we well know.

It wasn’t an achievement. I said as much at the time, despite being called ‘self entitled’. It was a reward for failing to beat Legia Warsaw

The Europa League efforts were total failures, but then par for the course given the man in charge. Villa didn't win the Conference in 23/24, though, which is surprising given their manager and his record.

And yet, it’s still a competition you can’t be in unless you aren’t good enough for the CL and EL. It’s a competition for losers and also-rans.

The rot had set in before then.

Reminds me of a funny UFS story when we wanted to put a banner along the lines of "all aboard to Sevilla" (or wherever the final was that year).

The club said no because they didn't want to look "arrogant". Their official betting partner had us the runaway favourites to win the competition.

Has this Apichet fella ever done anything of importance at the club or is he just there for the good times like groupies at a 70's Top of the Pops recording? According to Copilot he provides "high-level governance, stability and strategic oversight."

Fast forward 4 years and they’re retweeting ’Stephy’s’ “Gnna have fun this szn 🍿 “ before a ball was even kicked
