That's an absolute joke IMO. I think the stupidity of doing it for what could only be a marginal gain at best deserves something. But that is completely over the top.

Sporting integrity eh. This season never stops giving. This gives Cov a better chance of survival as well.

For the integrity of the competition, they should have just promoted Hull.   it doesn't feel right that Middlesbrough get a stab at the final.  They will have had a disproportionate amount of time to prepare against a known opposition. Something Hull won't have had the benefit of.

You know Hull and Middlesbrough have played each other twice this season?

This is so messy, teams could change again for Saturday depending on appeal, kick off time of 16:30 has also been removed, if Southampton remain kicked out then Middlesbrough have 48 hours to make arrangements for Saturday’s game

Southampton has a right to appeal the Commission’s decision in accordance with EFL Regulations and the parties are working to try and resolve any appeal on Wednesday 20 May. Subject to the outcome, it could result in a further change to Saturday’s fixture.

The EFL is now in discussion with all three Clubs regarding the implications of today’s decision and will make a further announcement in due course.

Why? Even if the points were deducted now they still wouldnt make the top 6. No precident set that if a team gets booted out it drops to p7. If anything it should have been boro get a Bye

Well Boro have got a bye.

And I was thinking that the punishment is ejection from the playoffs FOLLOWED by a subsequent 4 point deduction next season.  So their ejection from the playoffs if enforced before the playoff would have seen Wrexham get in.  I'm not saying Wrexham have a case, just they'd be going mad.

I think Millwall have a case to go mad too.  Boro get a bye because Saints cheated.  If it's a 3 team playoff the 3rd placed side should probably be prioritised to go to the final.  Except of course they had their chance and lost.  But so did Boro.

I didn't expect them to have the bollocks to do this, if I'm honest.

Adding the points deduction is a clever move because when Southampton inevitably appeal, they can just reduce/remove the points deduction, leaving the main punishment in place.

No chance that the sponsors and broadcasters would accept their biggest game of the season not being played. Harsh on Hull but there was zero chance that they were cancelling the game altogether.

In the context of Celtic keeping their title after stopping a match being completed and refereeing decisions that were objectively wrong, and Man City keeping titles after buying world class players with money they shouldn’t have been allowed to spend - this is an absolutely crazy decision.

Sorry but you can’t defend the rules in a connected football pyramid when there is such a failure to impose consistent and proportionate punishments.

Sure.... But Hull WILL have been preparing for a game against Southampton.  Training drills will have been built around their known patterns of play and strengths / weaknesses....

Now they have to pivot to Middlesbrough at short notice.

Middlesbrough will have had all this time to train and drill against Hulls patterns.  It's an advantage without a doubt.

Its not a joke though is it? You have absolutely no idea what advantage they could've gained and what was seen and even if they didn't gain much its incredibly poor professionalism and needs making an example of.

Just dont do it? Its not difficult.

I agree.  But that isn't what I was saying.

Watch Southampton lead a full scale inquiry into what happened and sack who was responsible while Aiyawatt and Rudkin parade the Premier League trophy around to 38 fans and 5,292 Thai influencers at the 5000/1 reunion next week.

neither can you justify the wrong of what Southampton did based on the wrongs of others

The appeal will probably only concern the points deduction in reality. They aren’t making a call like that and doing a U-turn regardless of whether it’s a different panel.
