Players living far away was never an issue under Pearson, why is it now? Kasper, Drinkwater, Simpson etc all used to do it. Just a none issue really.

This. Kasper always lived in Manchester while here for a decade didn’t he? It’s surely a much worse drive than from Herts.

Can’t believe the amount of positive comments are on here about RVN dealing with this issue. He’s been a complete failure from a management perspective. He’s desperate to improve standards off the pitch but he seems to have absolutely no care about standards ON the pitch which have plummeted significantly from even the poor levels under Cooper. He’s forced players to stop commuting but how has that helped Vestergaard for example? He’s now in the bomb squad.

Picking unnecessary fights with one of our better midfielders who’s just had a kid and who commuted every day during Enzo’s stint (and with no problems) seems stupid and the act of an increasingly desperate leader. The fact is he has none of the team other than arguably Luke Thomas actually playing for him would suggest he needs to look closer to home and his own management techniques which have dumped creative players, ignored youth, demotivated the entire squad and alienated the fans.

Context aside, with Winks I’ve not had him since the “miss you Enzo” sign. It’s just the kind of attitude we don’t need at the club. Congratulations on his baby, but he’s free to go for me.

This is what happens when anyone tries to impose a bare minimum of standards at a club where the owner wants to be best mates with all of the players. They’ve been getting to run the show and do whatever they want for years.

However painful it is to accept, Winks is one of our better midfielders. Better than Skipp, better than Soumare.

RVN should focus on imposing the bare minimum standards on the pitch first. That starts with picking the best players at his disposal and playing them with some semblance of an attacking plan. He’s failed miserably at this. He instructed his team to defend the 2-0 loss in the 2nd half yesterday (as confirmed by Luke Thomas) as if losing 2-0 without a fight or even attempting to score is going to help our desperate relegation fight. His standards have resulted in 0 goals in the last 7 games, - all defeats. His management of Winks hasn’t improved the player or the team, his management of Buonanotte hasn’t improved the player or the team, his management of Mavididi hasn’t helped the player or the team, his management of Coulibaly has been disastrous. As I say, the only player who isn’t dialling it in at the moment is Luke Thomas. Poor people management from RVN.

Reference to my initial post… I didn’t have the context earlier. It’s shit that he’s felt the need to post that in response to a Herlihy/Percy special.

One thing I would say though is that footballers should be given paternity leave just like anyone else. It’s never sat well with me that they feel the need to play a game whilst their partner is in hospital!! I actually think it would be a great thing for society to see footballers doing this also.

However after that period is over… and I’m often on the “these lads have lives” side…. It’s a different story. Madders has upended an almost school age child and twins because Spurs asked him to. They gave him a years grace to get everything sorted. He also stayed at the spurs training ground 3 nights a week. And as we know he’s all about family first.

If you’ve chosen to play for a team that aren’t near where you live. Staying over one night a week isn’t a big thing.

Apparently going on a jolly abroad when your wife is 5 months pregnant is fine but 1 night a week in Leicester is more than the poor little fella can cope with.

Read it, tried to have an opinion on it, but don’t give a crap any more. They all suck, in their own special ways. Let them eat each other.

Couldn't give a **** where he lives, if hes turned up late or is physically struggling cause of the travel, then fair enough.

If they haven't been affected, don't care what his commute is, there's no requirement for players to live a certain amount of miles away from the training ground

In a winning team, perhaps not a problem

You’re referencing madders as a glowing example of commitment. A player who misses a third of the season every season.

FWIW, I agree that RvN has been awful. This is all part of a larger culture issue and incompetence at many levels of the club. Ruud will eventually move on, these players will think they’re the dog’s bollocks next season in the 2nd division playing against Oxford, and we’ll go through a repeat of the last two PL seasons whenever we manage to get promoted again.

Completely agree...and he should be judged based on that...but that's his choice and it affects his career. There should be no prerequisite to live a certain distance from the training ground.

There should if you are not doing your job properly, if you had a job and you commuted 5 hours a day and on the job you fell asleep most of the time and didn't have the energy to do what was asked, how long would you last?

I couldn't care if the players are flying in from Paris and snagging hookers all night if we were winning!

It goes hand in hand really. Football is a competitive sports where margins matter, the players need to be fully committed in order for us to compete.

Sadly a lot of these players don't give their all, they drift off in games, lose their heads when they concede etc. We need a team that has something to prove and are ready to put everything they've got on the line. We need to build around our academy and stop buying washed PL players who's careers are trending downwards.

How is being injured showing a lack of commitment?

Loads of blokes have to work away from home with newborns.

The bloke has enough money to hire a nice airbb for the month and use it for one night a week with his family. End of the day you’re paid to be a footballer and you have lost 14/15 games. If your manager requires you to stay one night a week you should. As one of the top earners do as you’re told.

Mate I'm just joking.

I stopped caring about RVN and he's gang of Willy pullers weeks ago.

Drain the swamp.

Seriously? Have you never worked with a colleague that seems to be more susceptible to illnesses and never (even subconsciously) questioned their commitment? Wow.
