Pronouncing Danish Player names

Hey all. I have been listening to a lot of your different podcasts lately, and noticed the pronounciation of the Danish players names were quite off:

 

Mads Hermansen actually sounds like:

 

Mass (silent D) Hairmansen

 

Vestergaard actually sounds like:

 

Vestergore

You all get VK right though it seems 😀

Yeah, I've ofter heard them pronounce big-useless-**** as Vest-er-gaard.

 

Could just be the local twang.

Pronouncing all foreign players names with the correct inflection of their native tongue would sound incredibly pretentious.

Yeh it almost gets a bit like when Joey Barton put on that French accent and nobody wants to be like Joey Barton

Mass Hairmansen would be a more suitable name for Wout Faes. 

 

In fact I can think of several more suitable names for Wout Faes.

I don’t give a shit if Danes, Zambians or Argentines get ‘Leicester’ garbled.

 

People get things wrong in their own tongue because some words are just difficult or plain weird.

 

Expecting 100% faithful, native pronunciations is the sort of exceptionalism some people (not the OP) decry.
