I won't name names but when Michael Carrick was suggested to replace Cifuentes some were saying he's crap!

Look at what he's done in a matter of days already. United fans think they're on a title charge.

Carrick would have been a great replacement for Cifuentes but I don't think you have to be the next Ferguson to realise that if you play players in their preferred positions you'll do well.

Lammens

Dalot Maguire Martinez Shaw

Mainoo Casemiro

Diallo Fernandes Cunha

Mbuemo

That's a very good side that's perfectly balanced. It's no surprise to see them doing well.

The lad they've just sacked will never get a top job again. Total fraud.

Ruud had no managerial experience in this country whereas Carrick we have to give him credit for the job he did at Middlesbrough.

Looking at the underlying statistics last season, Carrick had them well coached and it came down to the issue of the Middlesbrough players not finishing their chances. Rather than a tactical problem. Carrick also helped rebuild Middlebrough to what it is today, leaving them in a much better place to where they were when he came in.

You say rebuilding to leave them in a much better place but Middlesbrough finished 7th the season before Carrick joined. 10th before that. And in the three seasons prior to that finished 7th and 5th (and 17th in that season they gave Woodgate the job). Generally they're a top 10 team easy. They were underachieving under Wilder though and should never have been near the bottom of the league, no doubt Carrick turned them around and eventually made the play offs. I always expected them to push on the following season but he failed to reach the play offs twice.

I like Carrick and thought he'd have been given more time but I know a few 'Boro fans through work and they all said he was underachieving given their squad. And look at them now, I can hardly disagree.

I know it's only a very poor Burnley, but how good are Sunderland. Organised attack, always on the front foot and not afraid to chase more goals.

I long for the days to watch us play like that again.

All the talk but is it just 3 premier league signings lol

Think it was the same last yesr, deadline day is for desperate football league clubs getting players teams done want.

Imagine going up and spending £161m straight away, then being able to sell a failed signing in January easy enough, then immediately sign another exciting player.

I’d say they’ve got a future £350-400m worth of revenue out of those summer signings too 😅

I know football transfers are notoriously weird these days, but anyone know why Arsenal and Spurs spent yesterday fighting over and signing two Scottish kids, and made a big deal about it rather than it just being a quiet development squad signing?

I found it really odd as well. Never heard of them and if they were classed as "wonderkids" then surely we would have. Strange.

Give it a few seasons and Palace will be where we are

Turns out they failed to submit the paperwork in time and McNeil had to head back to Everton, seems it won’t take a few seasons.

I said it'll be next season but if West Ham were able to win at least one game (or if they would have hung on at Chelsea on Saturday) then it might be this season. I wouldn't put it past Leeds/Forest to finish above Palace. Their last win was at the start of December, they are horrific, Glasner getting out while he can.

Cry me a river McNeil's wife. Will never have to lift a finger in her life and neither will generations of her family. Suck it up.

She's been through some pretty horrific surgery recently, probably going to severely limit their chances of a family. There's two sides to this... should it all be aired in public, probably not.... but equally if people are going to be abusive should you be given a chance to give insight into what's going on in your life to remind people footballers are human beings? ****ing absolutely!

Some things are more important than money which the Daily Mail readers are struggling to understand ("so what he's on 100k a week" etc).

Eh, it's just example #568363 why footballers and especially their families shouldn't be posting their drama all over social media.

I mean, for clarity, nobody should but I do agree that it's a read-the-room kinda moment when you're complaining about not getting to move to London to earn millions when you already live in Liverpool earning millions.

Especially given that anyone with even the slightest bit of knowledge of football can look at Crystal Palace's day yesterday and realise they, too, were having a pretty bad day and it's fairly obvious why other deals collapsed.
