It’s a ghost ship

russia has decided to raise the stakes by shadowing it.  If the Americans have boarded it then I expect the Russians to quietly disappear from the area.

Russia has declared it theirs now and are complaining.

It was stateless this morning.

Heard an interview with someone saying that the captains office will have a cupboard full of flags to fly !

russia are presumably trying to draw a line in the sand on the Americans clamping down on these ‘ghost ships’ that are used to transport a lot of Russian oil aro7nd the globe.  This ship was used more recently for Venezuelan oil so Moscow probs not that bothered but I think they want to make a bigger point to Washington not to get involved with ships carrying their oil.

Was going between Iran as well. So I guess it's likely there isn't just sanctioned oil aboard.

Of all the mad things the US has done lately, this isn't one of them. We sanctioned all these vessels for a reason and just ignored them for years.

Everyone has a point, but some people are strawmanning constantly and missing the point rather than reading anything properly. It's all over this thread.

Equally some are denying reality. It took less than 24hrs between your denial that America was threatening Greenland militarily, before America very publicly confirmed that it was threatening Greenland militarily.

Agree with this. Another concern for me is  electric cars - having had one for the past 3 years I don't think its socialised enough as how dangerous they can be in the wrong hands. You get instant power and generally very quick 0-60, very easy to speed - given they will become more widely available and cheaper so access for young drivers in particular will become greater. Mine is 535bhp and quite scary when you want to put your foot down, I think this could be a real concern in the next 5 years - 10 years.

Not all, but some electric cars come with real engine sounds.

In general, I do like the technology, however...

My concern with e-cars is the question surrounding electropollution and its effect on the human body.

Think Denmark should agree with Greenland to gift to or share the island with Canada

That would be hilarious.

I would be most interested to hear how this particular problem might be remedied while maintaining civilisational function and human quality of life.

Next time I'll be sure to look at the news 24 hours in the future before making any statements.

The account I’ve just read said that the Russian navy weren’t actually shadowing it, they were just coming to meet it in the Baltic.

Ice agent has shot and killed a woman in Minnesota in a car. Some reports say she tried to run one of them over some saying she was just trying to drive off . Would be good for one day with no crazy stuff happening

If Trump does seize Greenland, what's to stop him doing the same to another strategically-important island - Gibraltar? And if anyone tells him there may be oil in the Falklands...

Greenland isn’t just some random choice, it’s seen as the gate to the Arctic which is sadly melting due to climate change. This creates new shipping lanes (including military) that the US will want to dominate over China and less so, an ailing Russia.

As for Gibraltar, there’s no competition over the Gibraltar strait, nobody is closing it anytime soon, likewise the falklands, there’s nothing of any merit in the south Atlantic.

There are significant oil reserves in the seas surrounding the Falklands that have been left untapped.  It isn't in the reals of fantasy that he'd like American oil companies to tap that resource ( for national security ).

Apparently this was the captain in charge of the Russian ship. No wonder they didn't have a clue what nationality it was!

Scottish.

It's always Scottish.

Egyptian swordsman serving in the Spanish royal courts ... Scottish.

Irish-American Cop... Scottish

Robin Hood... Scottish

Etc...
