Speaking personally, I don't think the urge for those who want to abuse power is any stronger now than it has been through history, but the difference is that recent advances in tech have made such means to abuse power more sophisticated, easier to apply and more far reaching. 

 

I will say though that the cold comfort is that the way such grifters and sociopaths choose to do things will end up consuming them in the end, and that end will be as horrible for them as it is for anyone else. It's just unfortunate that the rest of our species will also be along for the ride, so it's not exactly a desirable outcome even if someone might get a certain satisfaction at seeing their faces when they realise no money, no power, no pious little belief in whatever system they use to manipulate, will save them from what's coming.

It sounds like Putin has offered to ship all the uranium out of Iran so that Trump can call it a day, say he’s denuclearised Iran and everyone carry as if nothing happened lol.

Trump says it's nearly over. What if Iran disagrees. He's opened pandoras box here, now he's trying to shut it now it hasn't gone to plan. Iran will have planned for all outcomes. 

 

Strategically, why would Iran stop. They've been under sanctions for years. Israel/Netanyahu aren't just going to disappear.  The last few times they've negotiated they've been bombed, so they've got no interest/trust in that. They've managed to make America abandon all their bases, destroyed lot's of radar and missile defence systems. Why would they just stop now. America and Israel will just learn from these mistakes, strengthen, then probably come back. And the new leader is more hardcore - and just had his family wiped out.

 

If they keep this going for a few months up until the American mid-terms, causing enough disruption to the US economy, then Republican's/Trump are in real trouble. All Iran has to do is fire off a few missiles everyday and keep the Strait of Hormuz closed (or allow certain countries through).

So it appears that Trump took out the leadership of Iran and left a replacement who is more hardline and will try to frame this as a victory? The world amazes and confuses me more everyday!

I think what  people have to realize is that what constitutes victory for the  United States is different to what constitutes Victory for Iran. For Iran,  regime survival and to be in control of their own decisions is victory, it doesn’t matter about their navy, their air force or missile stockpile. If their regime survives and they get to choose their own leaders, then they’ve won.

It’s actually not as confusing as it used to be.

 

Once you remember Donald Trump was the reality tv star he was for decades in the US. reach the realisation that Donald Trump’s sole motivation is to be the richest and most famous person who ever lived (and that he had little care about anything else, certainly not the lives or suffering of other human beings), and to do that he’s used reality tv and The Real Housewives shows as inspiration by constantly exaggerating bitchy arguments and .then exaggerating making up a short time later and continuing that cycle in an ever escalating degree.

 

Avcording to an episode of the Rest us Politics, it’s allegedly an open secret Trump and his cronies all make billions off betting on the markets before he makes big announcements knowing what’s coming and high ups in the US were showing them how you could see them making money off all his moves by how they place bets just before the endless up-and-down news cycles of escalating shit.,.

 

Then you realise Elon Musk is currently the same and trying to drive the same thing amongst the tech bros and in various European countries

 

It’s not confusing like it used to be when there’s all kinds of secret negotiations and real politik - thar doesn’t happen anymore, it’s all just public spats on twitter. The Zelenskyy attack in the White House, ratxheting up Switzerland’s tarryffs because he found the PM too whiny on the phone, it really is that basic and crass, 

 

The world has become a Reality TV show, one that doesn’t care who lives or dies, as long as there’s drama to drown out all the shit so they can make more money of the escalating cycle of drama.

Then they will need to invade using ground troops. Can’t see Trump doing that (although who knows). Most likely outcome is that he has destroyed any chance of a negotiated, verified agreement for Iran to refrain from developing nukes, first by ripping up the JCPOA, and now this.

I think we might get to the stage when a team of special ops troops go in and they take the enriched uranium with them.. the facilities can be rebuilt to further purify the enriched uranium, but take the uranium and that, along with the sanctions, will set them back decades.

 

 

one interesting point I was reading the other day.. ever since the Iranian revolution in 1979, every single American President, republican OR democrat have gone on record as saying Iran must not have a nuclear weapon. Clinton and Obama were probably two of the most vocal, actually. But yeah… I’m sure  they preferred diplomacy..
