If only there was some sort of release clause that could've been triggered if interested clubs weren't taking the piss?

That’s basically our stance with the player if everything falls apart and he’s still here come September

if his agent has screwed things up for him that isn’t our problem. There was an RC and no one triggered it.  He’ll have to show maturity and get on with it.

He's proven to be reliable when it comes to BEK hasn't he? Probably being fed the info by the player's team.

It's quite nice actually - Knowing a bit of what's going on inside the club as we're pretty closed off and secretive nowadays lol

He was pretty reliable on the move to join us but has been pretty crap this summer about him leaving

Release clause value kept changing and he said basically everything was all sorted and agreed for him to joins Leeds

I can see why he wouldn't be interested in Saudi if he has ambitions of playing international football. It's essentially a league you go to if you aren't quite good enough to play at the highest level but want to make a shitload of cash, or are looking for a gilt-edged retirement plan. He may well be thinking that his career will be defined purely on monetary terms if he goes out there, which does at least suggest he's in it for the right reasons.

But the reality is that he's contracted to Leicester City, and that contract didn't include a relegation release clause that any club he would want to play for has been prepared to meet. He and his agent willingly signed that contract, so I don't have much sympathy if he has buyer's remorse now. It's not as if he signed for us in the summer of 2022 when relegation looked decidedly unlikely; he joined us as a newly promoted Premier League club that looked likely to get a points deduction. A lack of due diligence on his part does not constitute a crisis on ours.

So his choices now are simple - stay here until at least January and earn a move to a Premier League club/help us to get back up to the Premier League and stand out enough in the Championship to earn a place in the Morocco squad, bite the bullet and accept a megabucks move to Saudi Arabia, accept he's up against it in getting on the plane to USA and make millions until he can get a plum move back to Europe or sulk here and get neither millions nor a move to a Premier League club. Because a Premier League club isn't going to pay us what we're demanding due to the (admittedly excellent through gritted teeth) job the club has done of getting money for deadwood and trimming the wage bill.

I've really enjoyed the slow decline of the "exclusive" journalist this year. Romano, Sacha both have been massively unreliable this year and being called out significantly more

Clubs are sick of being played via social media, I think. They're now playing their cards much closer to their chests.

Like many Continental European players & fans, he must think there is a stigma to playing in the Championship.

But it could be very good for him. He has some wonderful qualities as we all know, but he's at the stage where he needs to actually achieve. If you look at his stats in his career he hasn't really done anything in terms of goals & assists. Which is what the top clubs look for. If he stays here, then could really lead a team, achieve something & get his stats up in doing so. Then, his agent can then go to top clubs & say "Look at what my client does".

We all know that he could take this division by storm this season & that will seriously benefit his career. Especially if he has a good World Cup. As with the examples of KDH & Rutter. An excellent season in the Championship can lead to some serious moves. If he goes to a Palace, West Ham, Leeds or Sunderland & they have a bad season then he will be back to square one. If he goes to Saudi Arabia his career will frankly stop dead for however long he's there. See Gabri Veiga (a much better player) as an example.

To be fair playing in Saudi Arabia might be something to consider to boost your pension but not as his age. I get the impression that the BEK sale is the the transfer budget so it is a bit of a dilemma for the club but anything over £30M = sell on sounds decent . If Leicester keep him and he is unhappy his value could drop if we are not careful.

It's odd that the Championship gets such a lot of stigma because it's actually a very watched league, especially among some of the bigger names. Leicester v Birmingham on Friday will get far more attention internationally than Al-Ittihad v Al-Akhdoud the following day. It's largely a sheikh's plaything to perform sportswashing that hasn't really worked, as evidenced by empty stadiums and the fact that the PFI is lobbing money at Newcastle instead.

Veiga had offers from Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Napoli. Had he taken one of them, he could have been a Premier League, Scudetto or World Club Cup winner. He's just bagged a move to Porto. Not to be sneezed at, but there's no doubt that Saudi set his career back.

Also I don't think there was ever a release clause. Somebody would have triggered it. I think that Tovalieri guy has been talking sh!t all summer.

So maybe we could take his latest missive with a pinch of salt too....

Here’s the translation of the Sky Sport article titled “Bilal El Khannouss part au clash avec Leicester City !” (published on 27 August 2025):

"Bilal El Khannouss is heading for a clash with Leicester City!"

The tension is rising between the Foxes and their Moroccan mastermind. Here's the situation:

  • Things have turned sour between Bilal El Khannouss and Leicester City. Negotiations with Crystal Palace are already tough—Leicester are still awaiting a response after sending a final counter-offer this Tuesday. Meanwhile, Leicester continue to reject attractive offers for the Moroccan. sky-sport.ch

  • Furthermore, recent approaches from Saudi Arabia are swaying the English club's mindset—they believe they might secure significantly more cash from a Saudi Pro League team than from clubs able only to offer a loan deal with an obligation to buy. Consequently, the player feels his choice is being influenced. sky-sport.ch

  • As it stands, Leicester are demanding £26 million, plus £3 million in bonuses, totalling £29 million to release their attacking midfielder. Some clubs, notably VfB Stuttgart, are apparently willing to meet that valuation—but only via a loan with an option to buy. sky-sport.ch

  • Moreover, Leicester had initially indicated that a loan with an obligation to buy could be an option during a meeting on Tuesday—but reversed their position on Wednesday, dismissing any such proposals outright when one interested club submitted exactly that. sky-sport.ch

  • In any case, Bilal El Khannouss has made clear his desire to leave the club and isn't going to change his mind—even if forced to stay until the end of the transfer window. The midfielder reiterated during a meeting that he no longer sees his future with the Foxes and is even prepared to sit out the entire season in the stands in the Championship if necessary.

He's being fed by his agent (his mother) clearly. As a few have said though, there's been murmurs for weeks hes playing up so it wouldnt surprise me at all. He has history for it.

He'd be an idiot to sit an entire season in the stands. His career would be tanked and no Premier League or other major European league club would touch him. He'd be lucky to get a move back to Genk. Clickbait.

Not really too much different to how it's always been with the traditional media to be fair.

Clubs, players, agents etc feed the information to these people for their own ends. Always been the same.

"Indicated" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

Also there's no chance he sits the entire season out, you can't get away with that as a young player yet to have a breakout season.

Exactly that.

He'd do well to look at Fatawu, who absolutely ripped this division to shreds two years ago but was injured for much of last. He's clearly happy and willing to rip it up again this season and probably will get his big move if he does and we don't go up.

If BEK sits in the stands like a toddler refusing to play, he'll have no credit in the bank besides being a player who showed odd flashes in the Premier League and cried off the challenge of the Championship.

If you believe that telling of the story. He’s been slacking in training and don’t forget he stopped training at Genk

Good point I forgot he had already thrown a wobbly before and is probably again.
Sounds like it may get worse if he doesn’t leave soon.
Can’t accuse the club of accepting the first offers this transfer window.

Bilal's agent really will do anything for his payday won't he?

Loan with an obligation isn't going to help much this season. I think he may still end up at Palace but if not maybe Spurs or West Ham who will be watching events unfold.

Cannot see why on earth we'd take a loan with obligation. If the loan fee covers his book cost and wages (which would still be a lot for him), we have no money to spend and we lose the player anyway. May as well just sell him.
