I think they’ve changed what’s reported over the last 10 years

Do you know at what point they gave the figures to those parties and how they counted/reported differently? I was under the impression that they always reported it as ticket sales including season ticket holders holders. Surely only in the age of QR/barcodes can they actually know the real attendance? Surely they didn't used to actually count the ticket stubs?!!

I think people forget how empty it actually was in League 1 last time. There would be swathes of seats when the attendance was sub 20k.

The corners in particular G1/SK1 were completely empty. Like genuinely no one in them. I think it looks different now because the empties are more evenly spread across the ground. In 2008 people really clustered behind the goals and the half way lines and then between them there were huge swathes of empty blocks like you say.

English football atmospheres in general might be shit, but we are at the bottom of all them.

Yeah often think we’re at the worst end of the scale.

Mad how much people go into bat for "English atmospheres". Give me nutters going mental about nothing on the continent over shouting "Go on!" twice a match for well won throw-ins.

The sad thing is we could have the best of both cultures. Scotland manages it, but the English are too proud and would rather atmospheres die in front of their eyes. It's a shame.

Another good hybrid example is Sweden. They have ultras but it does reflect the peaks and trophs of a game more than in Germany or Italy in my opinion.

Id agree with you there regarding the home fans.  Ive been to a couple of allvenskan games and the home fans are good but there are lulls at times, altho they still p*ss on most english home atmospheres. But the away fans are next level.  Incessant noise, pyros, flag waving, chanting from before kick off till after the final whistle.

I dont know exactly when but there’s a big difference between the attendances officially given recently compared to say 06-12 era.

Like others have said when we were last in L1 the average based on figures released by the club was just above 20K whereas this season its 28K😂😂.

However the average based on actual attendees this season is our worst since 95/96.

I remember what the KP looked like very well in 08/09 and it was slightly different to now in terms of the spread and positioning of persons.

So yeah it does feel like the club reported pretty accurate figures 15-20 years ago but obviously they dont do it the same now.

We got about 23,000 in the Champ when Levien,Holloway etc were in charge and stayed pretty much the same the last time we were in L1 if i remember correctly (Helped we were winning a few matches).....Tuesday night and pretty much every game at home has been well below that from what i have seen......and i don't blame people staying away, because there used to be a bit of hope!

I could be wrong obvs, but the ground to me doesn't look less full than last time we were in L1. Not even close.

The 2008/09 figures were also recorded as season tickets plus individual sales. For example, we know Tuesday night’s was somewhere around 16,500. In 08/09, only two home games (Stockport and Yeovil) had lower official figures than Tuesday’s, and attendances were unquestionably lower back then.

The club is lying. It’s not just a matter of semantics either because they misuse the word 'attendance' when announcing 'tonight's attendance'. If they wanted to be honest and report ticket sales as allowed under EFL rules, they should say 'tonight's ticket count'. Attendance obviously implies the number of people actually in the stadium.

As much as I romanticise that season as the one which made me fall in love with LCFC, it was proper grim at times.

Still remember that Swindon home game, watching us limp to a 1-1 draw midwinter. Was in the family stand at the time and there were enough spare seats that we all moved to the back rows to stay out of the wind and sleet. Andy King got a late equaliser, probably the coldest I've ever felt at a match, the windchill was baltic and there was nothing to jump up for until the last 5 minutes.

Looking back at the stats it was under 20k that day, but we dropped as low as 16.5k for a midweek one against Stockport a few weeks later (which might actually be the game I'm remembering for the bad weather, was also a 1-1 draw)

More of that to enjoy this coming winter, folks!

I have basically exactly the same experience of the Hereford home game that season.

I don't doubt you and I'm curious to see how it compares, but do you actually have these numbers?

Wigan was 16K.

Doncaster 19K.

Peterbro 23K

I can’t recall the others exactly, @adejo92 might remember.

There's absolutely no chance we're averaging less than we did in 2008/09, even with the Leeds and S****horpe sell-outs that season factored in. Place was empty most weeks.

Having been there for every game of both that season and this season I don’t see much difference other than where people are sat in terms of the spread.

Still remember walking down to Stockport at home midweek in 2008. Rained all the way, soaked jeans.

Drew 1-1 with both goals scored within the first five mins I think.

Honestly some of the grind of that season is like this. Drab, crap games against crap opposition (what do we expect we're in League One), cold midweek evenings with silent drones who can muster up no enthusiasm.

Only difference this time is that I cba to spend my free time being there for it - and we don't have a decent manager.

Netherlands also has a great blend.

Most of these European countries haven't had their game completely ****ing destroyed by billionaires though.

It still slightly resembles what it's always been.

English football is absolutely nothing like what people loved and that completely effects the ability of those who recognise this (either consciously or subconsciously) to get vocal on the same level.

Are you saying there was only 16k fans at Wigan?

Because I reckon you're miles out.

Don't get me wrong, nowhere near the "official" attendance but still, it would be closer to about 24k.

Peterborough at 23k as well is clearly false. Was largely full outside of hospitality and a massive away attendance.

You can't beat an English atmosphere at the top of it's game.

Nothing will ever get close to our UCL game against Sevilla. A stadium fully invested and willing their team on is a lot more powerful that a corner full of grown men in balaclavas jumping up and down, I'm sorry.

there were defintely not 16k fans in for Wigan, a fairly empty away corner won't help the total attendance figure but why are some here beating their meat on a 16k attendance? that is 50% full. Anyone who believes this waffle is off their rocker. 22-23k f or Wigan. 26-27k for Peterborough

When you think if there were 27k that's a whole 5k seats empty. you could fit another away end in? or move everyone and have the family stand completely empty? I think not....
