What?  Holland?  It's a well trodden path.

I think it more likely that a mediocre career points to a mediocre player, regardless of how many minutes he's played for us.

21 league games or in real minutes, 9 games in Netherlands is hardly the transitional foundation for a player going from N.America/S.America to Europe. Feyenoord might had plans on bringing him on a bit more this season until other circumstances jumped in.

I think you're going to be disappointed.

I expect that you think Trevor Benjamin just needs a little bit more time

I might be. I’m just not writing the fella off yet.

Don’t really get the Benjamin comparison

I think it needs saying again that our three 'strikers' combined have one league goal between them in NINE games. Appalling all round. Vestergaard has scored more for God's sake lol

Carranza for me though gets the benefit of the doubt, as he has barely had minutes compared to the other two. The issue is, despite his pathetic goals return we genuinely look a better team with Daka in from the start, so if he's going to take a chance it's going to have to be from the bench for now.

Reminds us just how much we still relied on a geriatric Vardy, and why he was still getting picked week after week at 37. He was just ten times the player of the alternatives, even with his legs gone.

I guess this is the fallout from that - we're left with basically nothing up top since we had the best part of ten years to plan for his succession and failed miserably.

Again, I won't be too hard on Carranza as this falls more on Daka and Ayew, who have played a lot more football even this season and contributed one goal between them. But he needs to show he's capable soon if he doesn't want to lose his spot to Patson, who is at least showing other qualities.

To be fair to them, I don't think neither Daka or Ayew can play the lone striker role. To make matters worse we're told Carranza's more of a 2nd striker too. Nobody at the club has been able to play as a lone striker, apart from Vardy, since Ulloa.

I was being flippant but I cited Benjamin just as an example of forlorn hope.  He was always going to continue being Trevor Benjamin.

But let's say you're right and I'm wrong.  Carranza is just not ready or acclimatised to the league, but will get better given time.  Well that is still piss poor recruitment because we need a functional striker right now if we want to get promotion, not in six months time.  20% of the season is already gone.  We've been Rudkin-ed yet again.

Few Mystic Meg's kicking around? Carranza has hardly been through the door five minutes and he's being written off. Keep your Lottery Numbers to yourselves.

You don't need to be mystic Meg, just a little cursory research shows you a pretty mediocre career to date.

I can never understand the idea that seems to pervade FT that a player might undergo metamorphosis into something quite different just by putting on a blue shirt.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but you've got to have a strong lad up top. I't so important. They can occupy Defenders, Win the Ball, Bring others into play. Allow others to get forward by holding up the Ball. Support the Wingers, Help out at Corners and set pieces as well as scored Goals.  It's also why we missed out on Champions league.

It's also the reason Man City struggle at times despite the quality they have in their team.

The little I've seen of Caranza I'd question who scouted him. As he hasn't shown much todate except the dark arts.

But maybe he just needs to get up to speed and will come good.

Some players find a club that it just works at, likewise some can be good anywhere else and flop at a club.

The evidence may say mediocre or not working is the most likely outcome. But is there any harm in giving the guy a few games to actually see rather than writing him off after a couple of sub appearances? What would a little support cost?

When we allowed Kone to sign for Swansea I thought that we must have something better up our sleeves.  We didn't.  We signed a fourth choice Feyenoord off-cast.  I just can't believe the arrogance of going into the season without addressing this gaping hole in the team.  Frankly, I am less than overjoyed about this state of affairs but what I can't understand is why everybody else seems to be so sanguine about it.  Just the usual 'give him time' platitudes as if we have that luxury.

Look, I have no axe to grind with JC I'm just really annoyed at the club for leaving us in this wholly avoidable position.  As for support, of course we should support him and the team at the ground but this is an internet forum.  A place for idiots like me to get if off my chest.

Didn’t he sign for QPR?

BTG brilliant analysis shows Carranza has the profile closest to Vardy  which is probably why we went for him. Needs to get fully fit  and then some game time. Marti rotates players to suit opposition. Expect 10+ goals once he gets into his stride.

Still confidenr he wont do anything. It'll go down as another flop in the market.

Without even looking at his footballing ability.

So much  is stacked against the lad, so many factors that make it a really weird choice of signing on loan.

That'd be a fantastic return on investment for a loan striker.

Carranza was also brought in to provide competition for a massively underperforming Daka. So far, it isn't working – in fact, both continue to stumble on the pitch, à la Laurel & Hardy.

But still early days. And there's always hope.
