You’re all smoking something heavy if you think Ayew will be dropped. But I would like to see Daka start.

Imagine Hamza will come in for Ricardo. Would not be at all surprised to see BDCR come in for Mavididi.

Personally would like to see:

Stolarcyzk

Ricardo

Faes

Vestergaard

Thomas

James

Winks

Fatawu

Ayew

Mavididi

Daka.

But I’m also not daft enough to know that won’t be the starting 11.

How am I seeing two lines ups in this thread with Begovic in goal lol

Jacob was lucky to get away with another one where he parried the ball out of a tame effort. That’s the only thing I can think of.

Because Stolarczyk isn't that great, not sure Begovic is the answer though, think we'll have to persist with Jakub this season and replace in the summer

I really think to an extent, Stolarczyk is struggling with the shambles of a spine in front of him. Look at how their guy walked through with ease for the goal last night. You can’t put that on the GK. They are the last line of defence but shouldn’t be the only one. But I get your point and agree Begovic isn’t the answer.

Thing is, as a young keeper, having his first real run, he’s not done anything drastically bad apart from at Preston. There’s areas to improve yes but he’s ok.

I think if you drop him now, considering the above, it’s not with the view to bringing him back in. His confidence would be shot. I can’t see anyone doing better with Faes and Vestergaard in front of them.

Hermansen had both of those in front of him last time in this division and was great for the most part.

Jakub's trademark parry in to a danger area save against Oxford handed them a goal, and he almost handed them a goal last night, his attempt to save the actual goal was poor as well. I think in general he'll be fine enough at this level, and there's more urgent areas that require improving before him.

Would like to see some changes but wont hold my breath, Marti seems a ‘play same team until in form or my plan works’ kinda guy.

Jakub

Rick Okoli Vester Aluko

James Winks

Fatawu Page Monga

Daka

With 3 games in a week, Marti is hopefully forced to make changes.

I have a feeling that VK got minutes last night as he’ll be starting, which infuriates me.

We have very little athleticism on the pitch yet Aluko offers that in abundance and had some very impressive minutes in pre-season….give the lad a chance FFS.

I do agree it’s a trait he needs to improve on. Good job we have a GK coach!

It’s not just the defence itself though. Last time we had KDH and Ndidi in the middle. Now we have Soumare and Skipp. Not including Winks as he was there before.

The whole spine just seems weak. Hardly surprising that they walked straight through for the goal last night.

Not convinced by Carranza, we’ve looked good with Daka leading the press, I’d give it a go.

This sums up the issue for me. It’s a squad we all know lacks goals. We needed a striker worthy of the designation all summer ….. and, whilst it’s too early to be sure, like you my suspicion is that Carranza isn’t that person. Daka does press well  - but that’s what you do when you haven’t got the ball. In most games this season we will have most of the ball most of the time…… at which point he becomes useless to us. Which leaves us with Ayew or a totally in experienced kid. I doubt any of us think Ayew is the answer. I just, personally, don’t see a better answer in this squad. 😞

Daka was surprisingly okay in possession under Enzo, but for me it’s more that he can play on the shoulder, at least in this league, and it means we can really pin teams back - we have struggled when teams have played a higher line and pressed us up the pitch. There is no threat in behind (arguably no threat at all) with Ayew.

I personally thought we should have gone for Kone, but we have to use what we have now. Crying out for a more complete forward.
